We are a local dining group who eat together twice per month. Usually as a group of eight persons, all retired. On this occasion there were four of us. Dinner at Bangkok House was the worst dining experience the group has had in four years. As we arrived I was impressed with the layout and ambiance of the restaurant When our order was taken, we were faced with numerous specials but some were apparently, (at 630pm) “off". Notably for me, the lobster. Never mind ... lets move on. We ordered some starters which were meagre to say the least, having regard to the price, We then waited over an hour and a quarter, at which time we were informed that one of the dishes ordered was 'off' and could we pick another pl;ease. We held our frustration and did as requested. Another fifteen minutes passed, and I was at the desk asking what was going on. Eventually two dishes arrived. We were not planning to share, so two of us started eating. It happened we had both chosen the same dish and we both felt our serving was over cooked and completely spoiled. As we were finishing our food the next dish arrived for one of our number. Her dish was also over cooked and substandard. Finally we all received our food. The last was duck and well over cooked.
The food was poor and the attitude to our complaint was not conciliatory or apologetic. Only their claim that they were busy. An evening spoiled by poor management and inadequate skill and attention to detail.
The staff were courteous and, I think embarrassed.
I am not sufficiently placated by the managers offer of discounting my bill, What I was served was not worth eating. I recommend the choice of another restaurant. We will...
Read moreArriving in Mittagong we thought we'd just have a quick pub grub at the RSL. On seeing the queue for placing an order then the inevitable even longer wait for food I engaged a local standing in the queue. She admitted she wasn't staying and was super helpful with other location suggestions. "Head to Bangkok House, it's not far away and the food superb. You can't go wrong." To say she was correct is an understatement. The internal styling, restaurant rooms, location, ambiance and staff pleasantness was soothing to our heads after driving for 8 hours. There was no rush to ordering, they weren't going for a minimum time record, we were treated as guests, albeit paying guest. Now to the food. This time I stuck to the philosophy of ordering a meal that I wouldn't make at home. Roast duck with two types of mushroom in a plum sauce. Bellissimo! Enough for two. MDH went for Chicken Pad Thai. Best of all neither meal was greasy, both tasty and the duck not heavy or gamey. Good value when you add the whole shebang. A word of warning - MAKE A RESERVATION! This restaurant is so popular it's difficult to be seated...
Read moreI'm not one to write reviews but this place simply deserves a glowing one! Went for lunch today to celebrate my mother's birthday (Sunday 18th) My second time here so already knew it was good but since then (a couple of years ago) they have upped the ante even more. We were served by Pat, a personable friendly waiter who kindly wished Mum a happy birthday, not only once but twice. He seemed to be the only person working on the floor and being quite busy in the restaurant that's no mean feat to juggle at once all on your own. He recommended to me the Thai lime home made iced tea, and wow. 10 times stronger, sweeter and more delicious than a regular ice tea - simply deliciousness in liquid form. And then the food - we had three courses (san choy bow entree, beef salad and prawn dish main, and sticky rice/fried ice-cream for dessert) each better than the rest. So fresh and full of authentic flavour and truly to die for. Light and healthy but also oh-so-yummy. Also very reasonably priced for such good high quality food. Can't recommend this place highly enough, it deserves 10 stars so here they are -...
