Mittagong RSL Club — Restaurant in Mittagong

I went here on Saturday 23rd of August travelling from Sydney for a birthday. Whilst some of the food was okay, from the 40 guests , some food was cold. One of the guests ordered a water cress salad and it only had 2 little pieces of watercress. The Sauce was wrong on a dish and my friend’s steak was cold by the time it came to the table. We all had to wait over an hour for our food due to the club being booked with 2 weddings, and multiple birthday parties and the normal tables being filled.

I went to one of the bars to order a drink and did not know where to stand to be served as there was no signage displayed. The bars and rsl clubs I go to, don’t do this practice. They look and see and ask who was standing there first.

There were a few girls that were being served so I stood beside them near the cashier. Another staff member entered complaining, whilst an older man came to the bar as the girls left and claimed to me that he just arrived and doesn’t know who was next and then said that because I wasn’t at the entry, that the man had “priority” over me and he would be served before me, the girl there said that she did not see me standing there also, so they proceeded to serve the man I asked ‘where are the signs to tell me where is the entry and exit?’ They said there is none but normally are there. I then said” well how am I supposed to know?” I thought the staff were very rude as they could have asked who was first as the man saw me standing there when he came to the bar. I then walked off disgusted with the service. One of the staff members serving our food was also a little rude and most likely over people complaining about the service and food. My family and I were passing through so decided to go to club rather then McDonald’s. Went in and was signed in by a friendly gentleman. He advised us that the play ground was out of action due to renovations which we were understanding about. Yes we were disappointed but though the club still looked like a nice place to have a meal. He directed us to the lady at another desk that would seat us. She didn’t great us, pretty much all she said was “have you booked?” I replied with no, she then went to tell another lady which table and she took us to our table 87. There was no greeting or have a nice night, nothing. The lady took us to our table and that was it, also no greeting etc. The club was fairly quiet with many tables available but the table we were seated at was right at the back of the bar. We felt like she just shoved us in the back, almost like she wanted to hide us with our young children in the back or because we didn’t book, different story if the club was packed but I would have said less then 1/4 filled. We then decided what to order so I went up to order which is when I then seen the rest of the seating available which was so much nicer then the spot we were put with our kids. I then went back to my husband and decided to leave and go to McDonald’s instead. On the way out she just looked at us, the gentleman at the front door asked what happened which is when I told him that we were placed in a really poor seat. He said we could have asked for a different seat but after the very poor services and her making us feel it welcome I didn’t want to even ask. Not happy at all, will...

Have been lucky enough to go here twice in past few months. Once for dinner, and once for a late lunch. Both times the food was excellent, and best of all, in my opinion, the staff were just as great as the food.

Obviously a very popular place in the area, judging by the huge turnout both times.

Lunch we thought was a little expensive for what we ordered (light) but the service is so good that you don't mind paying that little bit extra.

Very, very clean Restroom facilities, which was expected, due to the general cleanliness of the Dining room.

Both times, we were in a rush so we didn't have time to look through the Club as a whole - but, if you're after a great meal or light lunch, with friendly, helpful staff, then this is the place to go.

Would hazard a guess and say you'd probably be better making a Reservation for dinner on certain nights because it was packed with people when we dropped in for dinner.

Funnily enough, we were asked if we'd made a Reservation for lunch when we dropped in at the last minute (by then there was only about six tables with people) - but that could have been because some people request a certain table or booth I suppose.

Obviously a family-friendly Dining room judging by the number of people with children when we were there for dinner.
