What a surprise how meal sizes have shrank since I've been here 6 months ago. Ordered Thai Beef salad, it use to be a full size meal. Now it's a snack, an appetizer, and came without salad dressing. One third of what it use to be. It had 2 pieces of tomato, 3 small pieces of cucumber, one tiniest slice of green capsicum, beetroot leaves and lettuce, and beef. No onion, no salad dressing. My partner's Schnitzel meal wasn't as big a before neither. Prices are same as before though. No wonder place didn't look busy.
Guess tavern is under new management now, there's older fella looking like he owns the place, giving staff orders, we've never seen him before. He was rather sarcastic and persistent suggesting I should buy a drink and even tried to make a joke about me driving. Too bad mate, I've made up my mind about not drinking before coming to the joint.
Staff is new too, most of them use to be Aboriginal but now it's all new people and we haven't seen anyone Aboriginal. That's not good, hey!
On the way out, having spent less time and money then usual and feeling disappointed with the changes at the tavern, we observed that same older fella sitting by the tavern entrance ready to check people are checking in for covid. He got himself proper size meal that looked way bigger then both our meals combined. Yeah, that's the meal size we use to have there before.
We've had many lunches and dinners at Amaroo tavern when visiting Moree over the last several years and we loved it, but won't be in hurry to come back...
Read moreAlways busy but I'm not sure why. We arrived at around 6pm on a Monday and got the last table. We waited for over an hour for our meals. Not ideal after a long day travelling. They certainly weren't worth the wait. My husband ordered barrumundi with roasted chat potatoes and veg. When he finally collected the meal he was informed (unrepentently) that they were out of potatoes. What pub in the history of the world has ever run out of potatoes!!!? Anyway by the look of his plate they had nearly run out of green veg as well as accompanying the substituted bland mash and a sad bit of frozen fish was one very lonely piece of brocolli. I had unfortunately ordered garlic prawns. Now I love garlic in all it's forms but this dish was too much garlic even for me. I think around 1000 cloves were sacrificed for this dish (out of a jar.) I couldn't finish it and I suffered the after-effects for about a week - as did my poor husband! Suffice to say we will not be back. Overpriced and uninspired food with...
Read moreWe traveled down from the gold coast on a Saturday and looked for a nice place for a counter meal and a place for the kids to play whilst we caught up with family. We took a gamble on the Amaroo and I am so glad we did!! The food was amazing, steaks cooked to perfection, pizzas are affordable and delicious, tap beers taste great. But the shining light were the staff, they were polite, helpful and really made us feel welcome. The manager was great, we accidentally ordered the lunch specials unwittingly knowing their specials were only available from monday-friday. The staff set a pretty high standard for the hospitality industry. The only 2 small issues we had were that we didn't find a kids playground (they had and old aircraft on display which you could access which was really cool!). And there were a few flies making the trip inside to the delicious food and cool air, that's the only reason they didn't get a 5/5 from us. Would recommend time and...
