Before I start I’d like to mention I am a retired Chef of 40 years in the industry, finishing my career off as an executive Chef of Hyatt chain international. The occasion was my and my beautiful wife had our Anniversary. As we were married in Florence Italy, we craved great Italian cuisine. On arrival there was no one to greet us and sit us at our table. 1, The barman pointed at a table. 2, I was wanting and craving great oysters as advertised on their website. We placed our order, “ sir here is the bad news, the last oysters went to the table next to us and that they are not available. 3, on the menu there was CHAR GRILLED COD, the dish came out three darns of cod wrapped in Kale with beur Blanc emulsion butter sauce. The cod was so raw it was cold in the middle and had raw texture where it could not be pulled apart. When telling the waitress who me was lovely, she went to the kitchen and then returned to me to say that it is as it should be and it was slow cooked suvee, I said “sorry I would never say this, I am a chef of Hyatt chain retired, I know what suvee is and this was not slow cooked in a bag at 61degrees. It was raw.” In there defence they did offer me to have anything else. And after talking with my sweetheart, we decided to share her pasta and salad, then leave after finishing our wine. The end bill was $$$ but more sadly, I have always said to my many chefs, “if you ever make a mistake with food so badly that the patron is saddened by the experience, you go out and speak with them personally and you make some kind of amends. Then learn from the experience and embarrassment. 4, Sadly, all the menus on the website did not reflect what was on the menus. We were so very disappointed and I was so embarrassed that this happened on our special occasion. All I can say please to the manager of this establishment. With food and service, CONSISTENCY is everything. So very disappointed in deed. Booking was Sat 12th May at 8:00pm 2 people, mobile ending in 3333. I write this review with heartfelt sadness, disappoint....
Read moreMy friend and I visited about two weeks ago. She had the king fish, octopus and I had the beef fillet and the spinach and ricotta ravioli. The food was a disappointment. I am so sad, I had high hopes for this place. I was a chef for a catering company and I also have been cooking since I was 12. This was the most overpriced, disgusting, bland food we had in a long time. We had to ask for salt as it was tasteless or overpowered by vinegar. The pasta has pretty much no sauce, it was dry. My friend and I took a few bites our faces dropped with sadness. Nothing worse than paying a lot of good money for bad food. The waitress was very bad at her job she offered bread to us after we had started eating. The place was freezing cold. We were placed in the front even though there was only one other table of people to make it look like they were busier than they were. Of all places we were put near the fridges on a cold rainy day. They didn't have heating on and the music was so loud we had to lean forward to talk. A staff member opened the fridge and was cleaning the windows with a rag making us shiver there's about 4/5 fridge doors so it was not quick. The waitress did not ask how I wanted my beef cooked and it came out rare. I could not eat it and sent it to be cooked. I don't mind medium and above but not rare. My friend loves seafood and said it was definitely not fresh. The chef uses flavours that don't pair well. Yet still somehow makes it bland. I have had other friends say they want to try this place and I steered them clear. I hope this gets through to someone to stay away from this place if you want a nice meal. As I look back at the reviews on some food blogs I see that they were written by mostly caucasian people. If you are ethnic and enjoy flavour I would not recommend this place at all. We had to get food on the way home. What an absolute...
Read moreVery overrated, at least on the night we were there - not sure if the usual chef wasn't present, but the food was not good. $44 flathead was actually rubbery snapper (two pieces like from one of those Kailis packs you get at IGA) and the whole dish and sauces just didn't taste good, plus the waitress didn't tell us flathead wasn't available. The $44 steak tasted horrible, it's a skirt or flank cut which we knew is tougher/stronger, but trusted it would be done right - but it had that yuck beef taste and I couldn't eat it. We couldn't finish the pickled cucumber dish which tasted like way too many dill pickles, made my mouth pang in the wrong ways... it is not a 'good to eat' dish, no refinement, probably about 4 leb cucumbers split lengthways. The only food Iiked was the raddichio salad and the bread. Staff are okay but a bit impressed with themselves. Before wine I had a $14 non-alcoholic Tom Collins, it tasted like soda with a bit of lemon barley cordial with a brown/discoloured slice of lemon in it - rip off, plus the bar guy tried to take it away when still a quarter full. We were here about 18 months ago and the food was excellent, but now we wouldn't go back. I have a large tolerance for a restaurant experience and can't recall ever having done a poor review (if you've got nothing nice to say don't say anything is generally the approach), but felt this one should...
