A couple of months ago, my husband was sitting quietly minding his own business, enjoying a coffee inside on a Sunday morning. He has recently migrated from Greece and in Greek culture they often linger at cafes drinking coffee. On this morning he was waiting for me to pick him up, as I was doing the shopping.
Long story short, the female staff at Yelo freaked out about him sitting there and believed he was "watching them". They did not speak to him or escalate their concerns to a manager, instead they called the POLICE. The police came and escorted him out of there, because by law they have to honour the wishes of the venue.
I picked him up and had to confirm the above story with the police, and they were just as confused as we were (because he hasn't done anything wrong). I called and spoke to the Yelo Manager later that day who expressed regret and said that the staff were on edge because they had received a threatening phone call the day before. They made an assumption that it was my husband and reacted with fear accordingly.
Really disappointing, I mean how do you put a star rating on someone being publically humiliated like this? Especially in a community that he is just beginning to connect with. He works locally in the area too, so for him to be seen getting escorted out by the police is extremely damaging to his reputation.
We believe there was racial profiling going on because he has dark features and a beard etc. I doubt the police would have been called on a blonde Aussie looking man sitting quietly meditating and enjoying their coffee.
I suggest further training is required for the staff and that patrons are spoken to before the...

Read moreOrdered a vegie pie and had it served in a bit of cardboard with a plastic knife but charged as if I got it with silver service. If you like ceilings with water and mould stains and furniture that seems to be collected from the tip then this is definitely the place, feels and looks like a place where the homeless come on Sundays for a warm meal in the cold winter months. This is obviously a meeting point for hipsters but if your hungry and want a good feed go elsewhere. Oh yeah and must say that I really enjoyed watching the male cockroach chasing the female cockroach around the room while eating my...
