You ask, “How goes it?” This my joyous answer: Today in Mudgee struck I the bonanza! These master bakers are no flakey hackers (Althea lies across the road from Maccas!)
What write I here is free of any fakery What found me here is no mere country bakery No sickly, sordid, meat pie mediocrity For these baked good befit the aristocracy
The almond choc croissant was just incredible The danish left a memory indelible The coffee left us satisfied and, apropos, I later was delighted by their sourdough.

Read more(4.5 stars) While most of our time was spent onsite at WildNest, we did manage to visit a few food and wine spots while in Mudgee. Althea by Zin is named for chef Kim Currie’s mum. It’s a corner-store bakery turning out perfectly formed loaves of sourdough ($9.50) at Sydney prices. But they’re good: sour and chewy with silky interiors that resist liquid. The sweet and savoury pastry range holds plenty of interest, running from tall golden cylinders of orange almond cake ($8.50) to creamy wedges of Basque cheesecake ($7.50) with characteristic burnt tops. While everything we tried was delicious, the Wagyu sausage roll was one of the best things I’ve tasted in this town. The quiche was pretty good too. The coffee is great and goes well with some of the sweet pastries we had. The staff are lovely and patient, allowing us to browse and decide our order since we’ve never been before (she also recommended the wagyu sausage roll). Plenty of outdoor seating.
