I thought you might like to hear some honest feedback about our experience at your establishment.
My partner and I decided to enjoy a weekend away in Mudgee. We always like to experience new things and your Smoking house appeared to be a place of interest. The confusion began when we booked a cab to find you. The cab driver kept asking about a place called “three tails” and we were unsure. When we arrived we could see both lots of signage? Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and taken to a table. We were asked us if we had been here before and we said no, hoping that we would be given some explanation of what to expect. The confusion continued: We were handed a compendium jam packed with way too much information about the gins and whiskeys on offer but not much about the brews. That was on a notice board at the bar and also we discovered later using a bar code on the other side of a post card on the table. When we waded through the copious amounts of information in the compendium including prices of your merchandise (which BTW was poorly displayed on a wall – messy and amateurish, did not do the products justice) we finally found a two-sided menu, which was hard to read, we had to slip it out of the sleeve to read. We were unsure about what to order but we knew we wanted to have a crack at the variety of smoked meats. We selected the “feast for two” then proceeded to guess about what 3 sides to order. The sides on the menu are only described with a title alone, no detail as to what to expect. I would like to suggest a photo on the menu showing each side dish and a description of what is in it, would have been most helpful. When we fetched our "feast for two" we were delighted with the smoked meat, the flavours were delicious, so tender and tasty. The sauces we had complimented the meat beautifully (not quite enough in small plastic dishes) BUT sadly the sides were most disappointing one was just corn in a cup another one, which was slightly better it, was the "bacon mac", the slaw had no dressing on it (too dry), the corn bread was okay but crumbly, there was a muffin of some sort? which was also crumbly, the tray had a scattering of crinkle cut crisps on it, which we thought devalued the meal. The other thing that was not great was the supply of bamboo utensils which are unsuitable for eating with. I do get it that everyone wants to be environmentally aware, but surely washing knives and forks and a spoon is better than landfilling with these things (besides you used plastic containers for the sauces?) SUGGESTION: Clearer explanations or images of the dishes on the menu would have made our experience better. We left the establishment feeling that our experience was poor value for money. Your wait staff did ask, dutifully, if we enjoyed the meal and we were honest and said: not really. His face dropped with our response, but we cheered him up by telling him that the meat was the best part. The evidence of our disappointment was on the tray as it was only partially eaten. ALSO Just like to let you know that your chairs are very uncomfortable...
Read moreIf you're spending time up in Mudgee I'd recommend some good bbq with these guys. I saw that they advertised Texas style bbq, so being a Texan I had to try it out to make sure they weren't doing the name TEXAS dirty. I will say that I was very impressed. From the moment you walk in the feeling of being somewhere back in Texas kicks in with it being a micro brewery. You can see the micro brewery area and the massive reverse flow smoker they have named "The Governor". Definitely gives off an Austin, Texas vibe. All the staff were very polite. The menu was easy to choose from with very similar items you would see in a Texas joint.
I ordered the carnivore meal that comes with brisket, pork belly, kransky, and 1 sauce. We chose the maple bbq sauce. Also ordered the bacon Mac and cheese, an extra slice of brisket from the point, and a slice of pumpkin pie. It was amazing! The pork went perfect with the maple bbq sauce. Brisket from the flat was good and the bark was beautiful. The slice off the point was just amazing. The Kransky was made to perfection with that right snap to it while biting into it. The Mac and cheese went perfect as a side. Apart from having just a little to much crust on the base for my own liking the pumpkin pie was delicious.
I can happily say that Smokin Bro & Co are serving traditional Texas style bbq. Everything about this establishment is perfect and makes you want to stay and have a good time. I hope whoever sees this review can...
Read moreThis place was going off on a Saturday night. Great vibes and a chilled out atmosphere. Every table had food from smokin' bro & co... We love the beers and the food. We ordered a beef rib and kransky and once we finished that we ordered a brisket feast for one (corn and Mac and cheese for sides):
Beef rib 5/5: only available Friday and Saturday, and unmissable, this is as good as the next in Texas, so juicy, tasty and when you pick up the bone, the meat slides right off. Kransky 5/5: this is one of the best cheese kranskys that I have ever had, also unmissable Beef brisket 4.5/5: very good, loads of flavour but it was a little dry Corn side dish 5/5: you have to order this, I have no idea how they make it so good Bacon Mac n cheese 2/5: flavour was there, but the macaroni was too soft and mushy, what a shame as this is one of my favourite sides Cornbread 2/5: flavour was fine, but the cornbread was very dry, not sure what happened there. Slaw was ok, and the sweet bbq and spicy bbq sauces were very nice.
We also shared two tasting paddles, I liked the hazy and the Hawaiian beers the best, my partner liked the original lager, classic pale ale and the three little pigs pale ale. They were really...
