⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bakehouse Heaven in Narrabri
As a Sydney fella whose idea of "artisan" is a $15 sourdough loaf that looks like a fossil, my trip to Narrabri was a cultural reset. I expected wide-open spaces, but I didn't expect to find bakery nirvana.
We stopped at Watson's Kitchen Bakehouse for breakfast and I swear the angels sang. This isn't a bakery; it's a museum of everything good and delicious from your childhood, but it's all real and you can eat it.
The choices were overwhelming in the best way. The staff were so genuinely friendly I almost forgot how to be a suspicious city dweller. We grabbed cafe lattes to go (perfect) and stocked up on some baked goodies to embarked on a calorie-filled mission:
· Sausage Roll: A 5/5 flawless specimen. Flaky, generous, no mystery meat. · Steak Pie: Packed with so much filling it should have its own postcode. A very solid 5/5. · The Cream Bun: This wasn't just a bun; it was a core memory. Tasty, tasty, tasty! 5/5. It teleported me straight back to 1995. · Bee Sting & Carrot Cake: Both a 5/5. Moist, flavourful, zero pretence just sheer delish
The real kicker? The value. We got a feast for what you'd pay for one "deconstructed avo on charcoal toast" in Surry Hills.
As we drove back to Sydney, a profound sadness set in. We hadn't bought enough. We'd left behind a treasure trove of goodies that Sydney simply cannot provide without adding matcha, spirulina, or a side of existential dread or barista attitude.
Watson's is a "woke free" space. A "glam-free" zone where the pastries are uncomplicatedly excellent and the only influencers are the lovely locals dropping in for a chat or treats and a pretty dam good coffee. No one is sipping an oat milk latte while recording a TikTok review. It’s just… perfect.
Narrabri, you are ludicrously lucky to have this place. Watson's Kitchen, you're an icon. I'll be back, and next time I'm renting a trailer...
Read moreRead reviews - took teammember recommendation on pie flavour (gourmet chicken mornay, lamb mint). Totally not wrong. Also have great looking gluten free pies, family size pies, frozen proofed pizza and sourdough balls ready to form and bake at home or on the road. Wish this were my local bakery but my waistline thanks me.
Regarding photo - yes I eat pies with knife and fork, and prefer a tomato relish or similar rather than straight up dead horse. But seriously, 50c on average for a meagre squeeze of yuck, and then there is the...
Read moreThe staff member I spoke to here was so rude I walked out. I was looking at the burger board deciding on what to order. It seems she spoke to me but I didn't hear her as I had a blocked right ear. When I went to order she looked at me like I was a piece of dirt and said "Wake up!!" I said "I beg your pardon" and she said "Oh come on wake up and just order" I would have understood it if I had taken a long time or held someone up - as it is I was in and out of the cafe in 2 mins. Not a pleasant...
