Nothing like a meat pie and coffee for breakfast. This bakery on the main street of Cessnock was open and available on an early Sunday morning which was great. There were a variety of options of pies however the filling could have been a little more. The taste and aroma of the curry pie we had was delicious. The surprising thing was the coffee - as the predominant feature of this location was it's Bakery and not Cafe I was expecting an average coffee - but the brew was fantastic and smooth with a great taste.

Very glad we tracked down Old Mates before heading off on a long drive out of the Hunter. The plain steak pie had a mixture of mince and beef chunks and the potato pie was unique and delicious. We love cheese and vegemite scrolls and found the biggest ones ever. Went back for a second scroll to take on the trip. The lady behind the counter was really friendly and engaged with us quite freely. It was a great way to take to the road again.

We stopped off along the main drag of Vincent Street for an early morning breaky break before the drive ahead. The staff were friendly, but most importantly, the food was lovely and shop appeared clean.

Woman behind the counter was not happy because I walked in and interrupted her private conversation. She was snarky and certainly couldn’t even manage a smile. Each time I asked for something her reply was “is that all” I tried to make light conversation which she made very clear she was not interested in.

I was hoping the food was a little more pleasant then her, but I was disappointed. Bread roll was yesterdays at best. Not looking forward to trying any of the other stuff.

I read some of the other reviews and was blown away by the rude and nasty replies from the store owners.

I’m surprised you even have a business left.

I sure a hell...

The older person serving was very rude and much more preoccupied with getting me out of the shop before closing time than with helping me - although closing time was still some time off - when I objected to her rudeness she just stormed off (the second younger lady was more courteous and helpful)

The pies were generally disappointing - very 'bready' crust, not flaky dough - the filling tasted of poor quality ingredients; the sausage roll was particularly dry and tasteless I was very embarrassed to serve this as an example of an Australian pie to my...

Used to be really good but the last couple of times I'd been in the Cessnock shop they had day old slices and lamingtons. Got home and realised they weren't fresh that day. Pastry Cook by trade so I know... Presentation of the cabinets left much to be desired as the trays were covered in cling film. On a positive note, the bread is always good and fresh and staff are friendly 👌 I've not been into the old mates bakery at Abermain as each time I drive by there is a staff member usually out the front smoking while wearing their apron. Not a good...
