We selected Cessnock Motel, as it suited our budget for a one-night stay, great location… only a 12-minute drive to Hunter Valley Gardens, which was the reason for our overnight stay at Cessnock Motel. Check in was fast, staff very friendly, welcoming and helpful. He issued me with a key to open the door to our room and told me that on-site parking are unallocated, which I chose the available parking space closest to our room. The motel is basic but the presentation of our room was reasonably clean and tidy, had all the necessities you need (body wash / shampoo and conditioner, soap, coffee/tea condiments, air con and the necessary appliances), to make our stay comfortable. Our room size with a queen-sized bed was rather “snug”. Our bed and pillows were comfortable. The reason why I stated “reasonably clean” is because the carpet had stains – looked rather dirty, I wouldn’t walk barefoot on the carpet and had that musty smell in our room, the same goes for our girls’ room. We had to open the window to let some fresh air in and left it opened overnight. Although our room was furthest away from traffic, it wasn’t the traffic that annoyed us, it was our noisy neighbours - our room wasn’t soundproof but we eventually had a decent and comfortable sleep. You also get free Wi-Fi and a flatscreen TV. Cessnock Motel is also across the road from fast-food outlets and pub and walking distance to the city centre… approximately 15-minute walk. Word of advice, if you want to cross the road to grab something quick to eat, it’s best to drive across the road (no nearby traffic lights to cross the road), especially during peak time – so dangerous. Check-out was super easy, just drop your keys in their drop box, located outside reception and continue on with your travels. Well-located and conveniently close to the city centre, perfect for travellers or business people who are staying there for a night or two – convenience at your fingertips. However, there is definitely room for improvements. I do know times are tough but it’s doable to have the carpets cleaned, a room at a time, still running a business and...
Read moreIf I could give this less than 1 star, I would. If you are a young adult girl, definitely find accomodation elsewhere. The receptionist was nice enough, however the room we were taken to looked nothing like the one we booked through airbnb (we were told that this new room was an upgrade from our budget room, but truly it was not pleasing at all). The place on our first look appeared clean enough, however we had seen the linen cupboard while waiting for reception and it looked poorly managed and untidy. We wanted to give the place the benefit of the doubt at first, but after 15 minutes in our room we knew it was not fit for us to stay. The place felt uncomfortable and not properly cleaned - even the toilet paper roll was half used from whoever had been in the room before us. You can hear every single sound rooms away as well, we heard full conversations and men vomiting and every single scuffle outside our door echoed. Additionally, the place was filled with grown tradie men standing around outside, doors open and smoking. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as two younger women you can imagine we were uncomfortable. So, after 20 minutes of trying to make it work, we decided we would leave and stay at another hotel instead. We initially wanted to stay here because it was close to our hot air ballooning location, but turns out there’s plenty of better options of accomodation that are just as close and much more comfortable. Even though we couldn’t get any of our money back or refunded at all, we still decided it was a safer option than staying at this motel. I guess it depends on your age and gender, but I would not recommend this...
Read moreDo not stay at this Motel I stayed at this motel to attend a concert in the vineyards. Of course the prices are always elevated on weekends. We were allocated room 1, beside the office. Upon entering the room a strong unpleasant smell was very evident. I noted that the air-conditioning vent in the ceiling had been secured using sticky tape , but not only was it this the TV remote was also held together with sticky tape. This is Australia not a third world country. I purchased disinfectant wipes to clean the remote control due to the sticky tape, then just kept cleaning the benches and table. There was no milk in the fridge for tea or coffee and no water. I had to buy this from the office!!!! When looking through the room folder there was a Beveridge list, WIne, Beer etc. They do not provide any wine and one brand of beer. I found the tiles on the bathroom floor extremely slippery and needed to be quite careful. The Location is great, as you can access supermarkets, cafes and shops for supplies just to stay at this place. When in the office the door to outback was open and it looked very cluttered and in disarray. The office it self was not what I would expect. I certainly do not recommend this Motel at all. It is definitely not a 4 star motel, and the cost was...
