Akuna is my favourite cafe in the area! Ros and the team are exceptionally friendly and create a beautiful atmosphere! I love coming here during summer for a mango smoothie and a healthy acai bowl and relaxing out on the back deck, during winter for a delicious tumeric latte and Ros' soup bar and for morning tea coffee meetings with something healthy and sweet from the treats cabinet. Akuna has a fabulous coastal feel, you will feel relaxed being there and a nice holiday vibe.

I wish I stayed in Newcastle so I could visit the cafe every day! Absolutely in love with this place and the incredible dishes they serve! The staff are young and super friendly and you can tell they’re really enjoying working here. In our 2 visits over 2 days we ordered: Tropical Twist smoothie, Halloumi and Turmeric Cauliflower Buddha Bowl, Long black coffee and cheese avo tomato toastie with fig and balsamic relish! Amazing job guys! See you hopefully soon ❤️

LOVED this place. If we were staying in Newcastle long term this would definitely be a regular cafe for us. Owner was ridiculously friendly and accomodating, and it was noticeable how the locals really liked coming here too. Quirky and cosy decor. Both food and drinks were delicious and perfectly portioned. Açai bowls are a must-try when you visit. I also got the tropical smoothie (which tasted like a boost juice!) and it was such a good start to my morning 👍

A great cafe that we thoroughly enjoyed! Lovely staff and very quick service. The cafe was clean and had a good atmosphere as well. Also loved the menu and the variety, also it was set out very effectively. The food was good, however I rated it 4 stars as the burrito could have been toasted more so the cheese melted all the way. And a bit more seasoning on the rosti would have been good too. Good coffee also! Would go back again!

What a delightful surprise to discover Akuna Cafe at Merewether. The menu is full of interesting and healthy options and the meals my friend and I tried - Vege Toasty and Smoked Salmon Stack - were excellent. Our drinks - Mochha and Flat White - were also great. The prices are reasonable and the staff were friendly, welcoming and responsive.

Had a wonderful big breakfast that was quite different from your standard big breakfast. The chilli tomato chutney was excellent. The only downside is how loud the kitchen is inside and there's very little outside seating, only 2 chairs a table too. Would definitely recommend this place and then a nice walk around the beach afterwards.
