Commercial Hotel — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I had a works burger, it came with a frozen meat patty - it was cooked and not frozen at the time it was served but I mean it was not fresh beef. Hard to understand when the best butcher in the hunter is a couple doors down.

My wife had the chicken schnitzel, chicken was on the dry side, eatable but kind of dry. There was a side of corn that smelled horrible like it was off, the pepper sauce was amazing and probably the best we have ever had.

There is no organisation on table numbers, staff are roaming around the establishment searching for patrons to deliver their meals to, they are inside then outside then inside with the same plate looking left and right, back and forth.

It’s a shame, we visited this establishment 4 - 5 years ago and it was amazing, it really stood out and is what prompted us to visit Morpeth again. It was nice when they had their brewery up and running and could serve their local beer, I understand there is issues with finding a brewer and this has nothing to do with the rating I have given, hope you can sort your food, service and find a brewer so that it can be that great establishment...

Had food here today with my family and everything was great! It was quite busy being the first Saturday of the month so a bit of a wait on food was expected. However, the employee taking peoples orders at the POS, was openly and loudly BERATING the other female worker in front of the very large line of customers and seated patrons. She was swearing at her, and treating her as if she was dumb. People in line were completely taken aback by it, even thinking it was funny. But I saw the poor girl (young, blonde, hair in a braid) walk out at one stage and she had clearly been crying. How is that okay? It's one thing to be a bully behind doors but to display it in front of customers? Embarrassing her? I was absolutely disgusted. The girl at the front was also young, her only defining feature (as I didn't get her name) is that she was missing teeth. She clearly couldn't handle a bit of a rush, and was taking it out on the other girl. Ruined the...

An authentic Aussie pub with a nice selection of beers from the Morpeth Brewery and friendly staff. My rating of three stars is related to the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen. We have been coming to the Commercial Hotel regularly for two years and really want to love the food…but unfortunately it is consistently average. There is some thought put into a regularly changing specials board and a good range of options on the regular menu, but unfortunately the execution always lets them down. Schnitzels are consistently average (chewy and no crispiness on crumbs), steaks are disappointing and the specials dishes are average. It’s a real shame because this place could be so much better if their kitchen could deliver some simple but really well...
