Went in with no expectations but keen for some good food. This place did not disappoint!! Super friendly staff as soon as we got there, offered water and drinks straight away. Came back after a few minutes to take our food order, very happy with the speed of service. Ordered the spring rolls, Garlic chicken, cashew and oyster chicken and the special fried rice. Spring rolls had a nice crunch to them but not overcooked, absolutely delicious! Garlic chicken is a go to for me anywhere I go for Chinese and this was fresh, didn’t feel heavy or too garlicky either. Serving size was great for my wife and I. Had some left over and we like to eat! Same with the cashew chicken.. my word that was delicious!! Will 100% be ordering that one again. So many cashews and the flavour was just perfect.. *chefs kiss* Only thing to take note of is the size of the special fried rice. We like to eat and ordered the serving for 3+ and that was good for the 2 of us. I recommend if you are a big eater.. get that one. Finished off with deep fried ice cream.. yum!! Try that one for yourself, no regrets! Satisfied and stuck on the couch. 5 stars!

We were first timers last night for Emerald Gardens. We took along a couple of friends from the UK, who are here holidaying here in AUS as we heard such amazing reviews. The food we could not fault, portion sizes were amazing we even took some home and such flavour. YUM! Customer service on the other hand is why I have given 3 stars, we hand to ask to order our food. Then when our starters came out we were asked if we wanted to order drink and they’ll come back to take the order. Someone else ended up coming. No table water, was offered. We then finished and waited for a staff member to clear our plates and bring the bill but never happened we had to ask again and for some take away containers. We ordered - - satay skewers - prawn toast - crispy duck pancakes - king do - combination laksa - combination chow mein - Koren spicy chicken (special menu) - fried rice So delicious !

A very good experience with my family. Ambience was very good, decor was calm and cozy, service was excellent, food was really good. Nice choice of cutlery for serving and on table. I ordered Malaysian food and must say this is the closest to Malaysian cuisine that I have tasted so far in Australia. Not many Malaysian dishes though. Every dish was unique with flavor and texture and presentation. Portions very large and sufficient. All in my family enjoyed it. The price was another stunner. For the feel, quality of food, experience, and service it was definitely low.. Have paid much more for lousy food and quality elsewhere. Waiting to go again and try the other dishes. Surely one of my favourites in Newcastle. Surprised to know about this restaurant from my daughter because they went on a school business visit. They need more advertisement for people to enjoy the good food.

The serving staff was nice and friendly. However the menu pricing and the quality of the food was severely lacking.

Duck pancakes - very small serving with unequal portions of duck, and all ingredients (eg 1 piece of cucumber, 3 pieces of onion, lemon didn't even have juice in it to squeeze out, duck to serve maybe 2.5 of the small pancakes). Chicken dim sum - tasted of basic frozen product from coles/costco, but priced as if they were hand made. Pork buns - tasted of basic frozen product from coles/costco, but priced as if they were hand made. Vegetable fried rice - the best dish of the night. Good arrangement of vegetable and flavour. King do - EXTREMELY disappointing to pay top price for what ended up be served as a shameful sweet and sour pork sauce with a few chilli slices on top. Probably the worst take on a king do I have had over the east coast. Satay chicken - it was fine. Whiskey sour - lacked depth in flavour, with no actual lemon flavours, and the orange rind was not servicable to the drink.

When the total came out on the till, I was gobsmacked that I could get a better quality meal from any small Malaysian restaurant or takeaway for 2/3 the cost.

I remember dining at Emerald Gardens pre-covid, and the meal was fantastic, with good quality flavours and a great experience. After the experience on the weekend, I was questioning how the place could always be full when there are better...

Firstly, may I say, that the food and service is rather excellent. Both my wife and I are always impressed by the cordiality and ambience of “Wests,” at New Lambton. That being said, we were rather “shocked” to see a few people wearing sandals and shorts. It is perturbing enough to witness folks “bare-footed” in the supermarkets. I submit...is it too much to ask, that people wear “socks” and “shoes” when visiting an establishment like “Wests”? After all, common “decency,” speaks for itself. Wear the sandals and shorts at the Supermarkets...but “not” at a Club-house, including, “Wests.” As for those choosing to go “bare-footed”...please, only go “bare-footed,” at the “fry-shack” on the beach, or, in your own home. Have some respect for others, if not for yourselves. Enough said. Again, great service and very delicious food, at “Wests.” Aside from the disappointing lack of “proper” dress-code, from a few, we, as long standing citizens within the community, very much enjoy frequenting this...
