Mizumi Toronto — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

I must be living in a different world. Out with a friend on a Saturday night for Christmas dinner. The problem is… we booked at 7 pm. From the time we arrived we were pushed to order and hounded to order other courses. No complaints about the food but the service was abrupt to say the least. Restaurant hours stayed 9 pm close by 8:20 we had just received the main course and from there we were stared at, hounded to hurry our meal and finish. As if that was t enough, a staff member lent over the table to turn off exterior lights. As we were in the front it darkened the environment. Next they returned to the table while we were still eating with bill in hand and asked us to pay now. Very disappointing experience. All this by 8:33 pm on a Saturday night. But we guess that’s Toronto and they’re out dated hours in the year 2022. Needless to say they will not be getting any more money out of us!! Anyone contemplating going… go early like 5 pm to have a normal Dining...

We’ve been going there 5-6 times last year and decided to stop going there due to hygiene issue. Once we had cockroach crawling under the tables. Several people saw it. One of the customers squashed it with her feet. I told the restaurant about the cockroach they didn’t seem to care. Another time I found a hair in my sashimi. I told the manager, she said she will investigate. 20 mins later she came back and said it’s my hair. What a joke! I was taken back but politely entertained her. I told her I’m not there for free meal please don’t worry. Immediately she had such a relief on her face and smiled. She told me some customers do that to get free meals! Are you kidding me? I did feedback to her that it would be nice if their waitress can tie up the hair as it’s not hygienic to have long hair flying on the face when they serve food. The manager didn’t get my genuine feedback, she again responded that it was my hair....

The food is cheap and delicious and the service is fast and respectful. We ordered takoyaki and it seemed much nicer than what you can usually get around here with fat pieces of octopus and a crispy coating. I had the chicken katsu curry and personally I found the flavour a bit underwhelming in terms of spice and some of my salad dressing dripped in which didnt help(probably would have been better to come in a seperate bowl) but it was generally a good curry and the miso soup that came with it was piping hot. Our beer glass was served frosted and mum who got the sashimi bento in a shokado box was very happy to get six fat slices of fresh salmon sashimi. We got a lovely cold bottle of water as well without asking which was pefect for the hot day and the agedashi tofu had a delicious rich flavour. I would love to come here again as it's not easy to find delicious Japanese in this style...
