Sylvias Takeaway — Restaurant in Newcastle-Maitland

Well well well... where to start with this ONCE Great Fish & Chip shop, gone to the dogs since the new owners took over, very sad to see how under par the Food and Service is here now compared to when Sylvia and her family ran it..absolutely delicious food back then..with real cut potatoes,not the Frozen, tasteless,floury rubbish these new owners dish out, very sad to see a once Great takeaway now reduced to this...rubbish,absolutely will I never go there,I went once after the new owners took over, disgusting, never have I been back since, I'm sure they could have run it the same as Sylvia did, but thought they could improve..how very Mistaken they were. RIP Sylvia's once great takeaway...now reduced to..this garbage. People ,do yourselves a favour ,avoid disappointment and DO NOT buy from this establishment, you will regret it.

Wow, where to start. I always leave great reviews of places I eat at. Unfortunately not this time. I ordered Grilled fish and salad, the fish was off, I could smell it from the door as it was delivered. I also ordered battered fish and chips. Fish was cold, dry and hard, inedible. Chips were cold and were not nice at all. Ordered Scallops and they were hard as a rock. I asked for chicken salt and vinegar which did not happen, I didn't even get normal salt. When you order Fish and chips you should get lemon with it, not from this place though. I'm very disappointed, I like to leave good reviews but this was so unpleasant that I need the owners to know so they can get there act together. Don't pre cook to much fish or chips, what I had today was definitely pre cooked a few days ago. If you don't take this as constructive criticism and improve, I'd say you will lose your business....

We’ve been coming to Sylvia’s for years and years but I felt disappointed tonight. Not with the food but the service. The lady in the light blue top was rude, loud and abrasive, and didn’t give me confidence she knew her own menu very well nor her own shorthand! She wrote down P for Pluto Pup then read it back as plain burger, etc. I went through it again until I was sure she could decipher her own notes correctly. Ultimately it was an unpleasant experience all from one person’s attitude, demeanour, and manner of communication.

You can get chips and scallops at many places; the store shouldn’t be making dealing with them unpleasant if they wish to retain business.
