Reinventing the local corner store, Hobart Deli provides a friendly home in a neighbourhood setting. You'll find a water bowl for your dog, a park across the road full of mums and kids, a varied and healthy menu and takeaway dinner options.

It's often packed to the rafters with people from all walks of life, the group of friends catching up, the loner with the laptop, the fitness instructor briefing a client, a realtor talking up the neighbourhood to a new prospect.

There's indoor and outdoor seating, but beware, outside the breeze can be stiff, so hold on to your hat and napkins.

In summer one side opens up and brings the outside world in, giving you ample opportunity to indulge in people watching.

Food and service is of a consistently high standard at slightly inflated prices - in keeping with the standard of living in the area.

Parking can be tough at times, despite many different street bay options - share a ride, take a walk, or cycle in. You'll be glad to have any excuse to work off the calories from some of the amazing pastry offerings.

Keep a lookout for the Tonka Trucks and the Milk Bottles - you'll know what I mean when you spot...

Edit: January 2023, we came again and was slightly disappointed. The classic scrambled eggs used to be a firm favourite. However, with the mixing up of the menu you now have to order eggs and toast separately. And the toast was so disappointing. Flat. Almost like cardboard. And I ordered the sourdough.

Also, missing many items from the menu. After trying for two different drinks I eventually gave up and had water.

Not all progress is good.

Edit: reopening. I had the Korean Street Sandwich again. And it's bigger. With chips. Still very good. Better than before? The jury is out. The cafe has had a full refurb. Now table service. And a new menu. Missing a few Aussie cafe classics like eggs benny, and the menu makes hard work of ordering scrambled eggs on toast. Seems stuck a little between a cafe and a restaurant. Coffee is still great.

Edit 2023: I have tried the Korean Sandwich. And it is delicious.

Always reliable. Always excellent. The food is great and the coffee isn't...

Posting this as I emailed the business 1.5 weeks ago and, regrettably, never received a response.

I used to be a semi-regular at Hobart Deli, but an uncomfortable interaction with a barista a couple of weekends ago has left me hesitant to return. The female barista with dark hair, glasses, and tattoos was exceptionally hostile and passive-aggressive when I approached her with a simple query about a minor order mix-up. Shortly after, I witnessed her speaking to a colleague in the same abrupt and unprofessional manner—right at the front counter, in full view of customers. It was uncomfortable to watch, and I felt sorry for the staff member on the receiving end.

Later that day, my friend visited separately and had a similarly unpleasant experience, leading them to provide feedback to a male staff member.

I’d love to return one day, but the lack of response from the owners to my email speaks volumes about how much they value their customers. Really...

A nice local cafe that's been serving the locals for years with good honest food, cakes, pastries and coffees. Our latest visit included a Bacon Benedict and a Shakshouka. Both were solid cafe brunch choices. Service is good and always efficient. Even with a steady flow of customers lining up and ordering at the counter, the wait is always not long. Seating is a bit tight but there's indoor and outdoor seating. There's plenty of street parking nearby.

Went to this place for lunch and ordered the Korean Street Toast. 20 dollars. There was Ham and egg in it. Tasted good. Ordered a Beef Sausage Roll for my son. Didn't finish so I ate the rest. Tasted good. Coffee from this place tasted good. There is a park across the street that is suitable for small kids 5 and below
