Schnitz Bendigo — Restaurant in Northern Victoria Region

After having read good reviews and perusing the menu of this place I couldn't wait to try it. The missus and I both ordered the beef parmigiana with chips and coleslaw with an extra side of garden salad. Firstly they mucked up the order and gave the coleslaw as a side, this is no great drama, even though the cashier read the order back as I ordered it. Anyway, 20 mins later out comes our meal and first bite of the schnitzel it was only just luke warm. So, we sent these back and asked for hot ones. Sometime later out they come again, this time hot, but with only luke warm chips. We decided to bite the bullet on this. The schnitzel was nothing more than a sloppy mess of sinewy beef, crunchy crumbs were simply non existent and I put this down to the fact the schnitzel had been undercooked and in addition to this, my wife watched the cook place the schnitzel in a pan with cold oil. The Neapolitan topping on the schnitzel was different, it actually tasted like the sauce in a can of cheap no name spaghetti in tomato sauce, it even had the same color.The hand made crunchy Tasmanian chips were very average, probably because they were not fresh made but of the frozen variety. The spicy seasoning on these chips actually made my missus crook. The "crunchy" coleslaw, limp and mostly tasteless, definitely not freshly made. The so called "garden salad" was just your typical pub plated rocket rubbish you get every where. This place was popular with teens, but if you know anything about real schnitzel avoid this place. Most pubs outdo this place by a mile even if they do serve just chicken. And to top it all off, we didn't even get a sorry from anyone about this botched meal. Missed a meal with order of two meals that was for delivery. Waited 7 minutes on the phone for someone to answer. When staff were made aware of mistake, first staff looked to blame delivery company. When they were in formed that the bags were still sealed when received they quickly admitted fault on their behalf, but they refused to have meal delivered. No refund on the spot offered??? Was told we would have to wait 7 days for refund? What a totally ridiculous customer service policy. Consumer affairs state a business cannot except payment for services not rendered. Even though originally it was to be delivered with original order, no delivery offered and I was forced to pick up. I find the polices of this franchise a complete and utter disgrace. You make a mistake, you fix it to equal or better, not expect someone else to pick up the tab for your mistake. With that type of policy I would be surprised if the staff don’t catch covid and close that business, forcing people to come get paid for delivery items during a pandemic, haven’t heard of isolated infected people??? You must have a few coming thru your doors ??? Will not recommend and would expect more than a little spend money first voucher for my time to correct their mistake. Will never recommend this...

Extremely disappointed!

I have wanted to go there when I saw it open but never got a chance.

One day I decided to take my teenage daughter out for dinner and a movie. I was looking forward to Schnitz as I love a great chicken schnitzel and thought it would be exceptional there as that is their main business.

The schnitzel came out and immediately I was not impressed, it was very thin and a little on the small side, it was accompanied by some chips on the side and that was it. It tasted very ordinary; the chips were ok. My daughter’s plate was the same, we ate it as we had paid for it but I am hesitant to go back there again.

I get a better schnitzel at Lazy Moe’s, thicker, bigger, served with chips and veges or salad for the same price.

I usually like to give a place 3 chances before I write a negative review but for a Schnitzel restaurant it was an extremely dissatisfying experience. In fact, it felt more like subpar fast food than a proper restaurant.

To be fair, my neighbor has ordered the take away wraps there a few times and says they are alright, so it could have been just a bad day for the company? The lack of size, thickness and sides to the dish is still unacceptable for that price point and being the business...
