I'm on a circa 4000km road trip of the eastern seaboard of the country and I've got an overnight stop at Nowra here in NSW.
Driving around Nowra, looking for a place to have dinner I've spotted The Aussie Steakhouse and I'm thankful I did.
The front of house staff are super friendly and hard working, I rocked in with no booking and it was no drama for them, they got me seated, asked if I've been here before and introduced me to this new digital menu and ordering system which works a treat! You can still order the oldskool way if you want but I was happy to use the online system because the staff are under the pump and I'm sure they appreciate one less job for the night, plus I didn't have to walk to the bar ;)
Ordered a VB schooner and the 300g sirloin with pepper sauce and just chips as my side.
The fact they have VB on tap was amazing for a 'Mexican' like me, it's getting hard to find around Melbourne these days! Price was super cheap at $6.80 for a schooner!
Schooner rocked up about 30 seconds after I placed the online order, wow!
Steak and chips tasted great and reasonably priced, much cheaper than what you would pay around Melbourne and surrounds.
Place is lively with locals who must be regulars, great vibe.
All in all - great staff, great prices, great beer and two ways to order, oldskool or digitally, what more could you want?
Only cost $40 all up with a tip for the staff, bloody beauty.
$40 wouldn't even buy the main in Melbourne, let alone a beer and some change for the tip for the hard working front of house staff.
Keep up the great work guys, I've noticed...
Read moreA Hidden Gem with Exceptional Calamari: The Aussie Steak House We recently enjoyed a lovely dinner at The Aussie Steak House in Nowra, a wonderfully understated local pub with a surprisingly standout dish. I brought my 80-year-old mother, and she was absolutely raving about the Salt & Pepper Calamari!
From the moment it arrived, it was clear this wasn't your average pub fare. The calamari was spectacularly tender and moist, a testament to the freshness of the seafood. The light breading was perfectly seasoned, complementing the delicate flavour of the calamari without overpowering it. My mother was so impressed that she made sure to compliment the staff directly on their preparation.
The team at The Aussie Steak House were genuinely appreciative of the feedback, sharing that they source their seafood fresh daily and prepare the Salt & Pepper Calamari from scratch with their own special blend of seasonings. This dedication to quality truly shines through in the final dish.
Beyond the exceptional calamari, The Aussie Steak House offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere typical of a great local pub. It's unpretentious and comfortable, making it a perfect spot for a casual meal.
If you're in Nowra and looking for a genuine pub experience with some truly delicious surprises, particularly their outstanding Salt & Pepper Calamari, I highly recommend a visit to The Aussie Steak House. It's a testament to how a focus on fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation can elevate even classic pub dishes. We'll...
Read moreIn Nowra for work and chose The Aussie based on google score of 4.6. The one and only time google has let me down. I entered right on 6pm, and after just a minute or two the waitress asked if I wanted a table for 1? When I confirmed she handed me a menu and cutlery pack and said sit anywhere you like. No info re ordering, no other words spoken. After sitting there for ten minutes, thinking someone might come and advise, I noticed the QR code and gave that a whirl. Ordering via qr is being phased out in many places so wasn’t sure it’d work, but given I didn’t seem to have a lot of options it was with a try. Ordering was a success and within around 5 mins I received my drink, and about 5 mins after that my meal. I ordered 250g Scotch Fillet medium rare, with chips and seasonal veg, with creamy garlic sauce. No option to as for sauce or anything for the chips. No table water either. The steak was almost the chewiest steak I’ve ever had and I’m not convinced it was even scotch fillet. But I was starving so ate it. Nothing was seasoned at all. Chips were ok but many were soaked with oil. Sorry but this place is far from 4.6 - needs a lot of improvement...
