Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Hospitality
We visited blackmans recently for a birthday lunch, hoping to support a local business.
From the beginning, the service felt dismissive. Despite informing staff it was a birthday, no effort was made to acknowledge or celebrate the occasion. What really stood out was the manager’s rude and condescending attitude. After we mentioned we were local, he sarcastically told us to “enjoy our holiday,” implying we weren’t from the area. This was both unnecessary and insulting, given that we clearly stated we were Ocean Grove locals.
It’s disappointing to receive this treatment, especially as fellow local business owners who prioritize supporting the community. Professionalism and respect are key in hospitality, and unfortunately, this experience lacked both.

Read moreI came here as I come to ocean grove whenever I have time off, although this is the first time I have eaten here. The food was good but not up to what I would pay $80 for. We had the buffalo wings and two burgers. One ‘Blackmans’ one ‘Southern Chicken’. The Buffalo wings in my opinion would be better deep fried, and with less hot sauce as I was left tasteless for 15 minutes after. The Blackmans was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the burger ESPECIALLY the chips, to which were the highlight of the meal. However the Southern Chicken burger was lacking sauce and could have done with triple the amount which was disappointing. Finally the pint I was served of Juicy banger was 16 dollars which in the city, is a lot less strangely enough. Read moreOrdered online a regular sized order (4 burgers) at 7:06pm for a 7:30pm pick-up. (Although the option to pickup in 15min was avail) Arrived at 7.30pm. Told it would be 5 minutes. Didn't leave with order until 7:55-8pm. Restaurant had maybe 35 pax in it. Got home, order receipt had ETA 7:45pm on it. Which means the order wasn't even processed, sent to the kitchen or even started until I turned up. I like supporting local. However, if they cannot get their $%^& sorted in October, before summer rolls around. I would be extremely concerned for when it actually gets busy. On the plus side I guess, is that the food was "fresh", although the chicken and vegan burger were well overcooked. And finally. Not even an acknowledgement or sorry...
