Fisherman's Wharf — Restaurant in Phillip Island

We came in January last year around 2pm after the lunch rush and got flake potato cakes and chips and they were really nice. We came again early January 2023 around 2pm and ordered grilled fish (gluten free) potato cakes and the fish and chip combo Ready after 15 minutes and took down to the beach. My daughter liked her grilled fish but my fish was the most bland tasteless fish I have ever eaten and the chips were a very small handful and 1 potato cake was missing. Cost was $25 We returned 2 weeks later and thought we would give them another chance. Even though it was 2.30 we had to wait 30 minutes only to receive overcooked chips and he poured all the salt over the flake not on the chips. My daughter’s grilled fish was average and both times it was so small and looked like it had been flattened by a steam roller. We tossed the $8 of chips out.the food is cooked in batches and thrown in the bane Marie so you may end up with something just cooked or something that has been sitting there. The girl who works the till etc returned from lunch with a drink and no washing hands etc before serving. Didn’t see any employee wash hands at any stage.

So reading most of the recent comments the food and service has gone down hill over the last year. The only reason they are busy is because of the location to the beach and because of that customers think it’s good.

Anyway my biggest gripe is first time missing potato cakes and second time overcharged by about $3. The charges didn’t match the already high price on the board. If they can take an extra few dollars here and there from customers ordering over $20 it will turn into a nice little earner.

Dont do it. I love, love love fish and chips. I have had fish and fish pretty much everywhere I've gone. This was quite surprisingly the worst I have ever had. Ordered the fisherman's platter with 1 prawn, 1 scallop, 1 crab stick, 1 Whiting, and chips (did I miss anything?).....oh yes.....calamari. Ordered 2 additional prawn, 2 additional scallop and a fish cake. My wife ordered the chicken wrap because she didn't want seafood. Got our food. She ate the wrap and said it was "ok". Now....for my food. Color of the batter was golden which is good. Not burnt and didn't seem like the oil was old and overused. However, the batter on the Whiting, scallops, and prawn was bland and undercooked (perhaps they should have burnt it?). When I handled the scallops, they fell through the batter onto my plate leaving me with a grip on scallopless batter. Prawn did not fall out but they are curled. The whiting pretty much ripped in pieces as I attempted to eat and dip it. The crab stick was "ok". The highlight and saving grace were the fish cake and calamari which were crisp and flavorful. Lastly, the chips. Small, flavorless and unimpressive. I would never come back nor sadly even feed this to my pet. Perhaps they are more deserved by the rancid sea gulls waiting outside to devour your latest culinary purchase. Pity as I had such high hopes and was a bit famished. Asked young guy taking our order if our food could be cooked fresh and not be from the warmer which had cooked food sitting there already. He said of course it will be as all the food in the warmer was already for other orders. We went outside to wait but I had a funny feeling and went back in to wait on my own. Another guy started picking our order from the warmer and putting it in boxes when the young guy who took our order said something to him in their language and he then emptied the boxes back in the warmer and then grabbed items from the warmer and threw them to the guy behind him with a basket who just put it back in the fryer for a minute and then back in the warmer and then back in the boxes again. Are you serious ? Once our number was called I said to the young guy what happened to cooking it fresh ? He replied with ,we can redo your order again if you want. Already waited over 20 mins. No thanks. Never coming back. FOOD WAS SO OILY AND TASTELESS DELICIOUS AND TASTY SAYS ON THE BOXES. LOL. MORE LIKE SHIFTY...
