Whilst there are mixed reviews about this place, and I generally don't write reviews like this, I must say the food leaves a lot to be desired. Whilst the serving girls were attentive enough... their beer pouring was weak.. and they had to ask twice what my partner had ordered. The decor was pretty good and suited to area, but the food... is where the big let down. I ordered the king fish ceviche was bland and definitely needed a bit more zing, I could barely detect the squeeze of lemon, salt, pepper, and olive oil... they served it in 3 different containers, which I thought was 3 different flavours, but no.. 3 different kinds of blandness. The 'sauce' was milky white which led me to believe that it was frozen, not fresh... I couldn't bring my self to finish it due to the size of the cut.. it was like twice that of what you'd get sashimi style... generous but definitely not necessary. The blue swimmer and prawn linguine, was sub par for the price, pasta was definitely over cooked and reminded me of canned spaghetti that I had as a kid, prawns were there, and had a faint taste of curry, the sauce it self had limited crab in it, it looked a bit more of a mix of meat and crabby bits. It had a tiny bit of heat which was great 👍 👌 and spot on and the fetta felt like an after thought of what can we put on top that's cheese. The Garfish special was the saviour, the fish was tasty and fried perfectly, a little bit boney but other wise decent, the pumpkin and walnut salad was very questionable, it had what we could only make out to be canned fruit mixed into it with a ginger syrup, it was to say the least very, very... odd. The weird thing was all the other patrons were oo'ing and aah'ing and sending compliments to the chef for such wonderful tasting food, so I could of been just ordering the wrong food? I don't know maybe the curry would of been better, or sashimi? but it would be hard to beat Faheems fast food in Sydney for Indian food they have multiple tandoori ovens, or Tokō for sashimi... in summary, as I sit here in my hotel room eating take away fish and chips from next door, which is delicious, I wouldn't recommend this place for the price and the fact it doesn't know what it is. Stick to one style, make it yours, and smash it out of...
Read moreAfter reading many good reviews we were excited to try Fumo 28. We made an early booking so as to beat the rush. The man working when we arrived acted like we didn’t have a booking and couldn’t take us for quite sometime before realising that he had forgotten to write our names down and only had a phone number for us. Really rude when he sat us, immediately asking if we wanted anything to drink and when we said we would take a look at the menu he was visibly irritated with us and proceeded to not come back for 15 minutes! There was only one other table in the restaurant at this point. We kept making eye contact with him and trying to say “hey we’re ready” but he refused to come back. It got to the point where we were asking each other if we should just leave. We thought we had done something to upset him until we saw how he treated other guests and the poor young woman working with him, he clearly is just like this. The young woman was awesome and went out of her way to take care of us and improved the situation greatly. She smoothed it over to the point we decided to stay since I had REALLY been looking forward to eating there on our holiday. The food was all decent. I had never had ceviche like that before and though I would not call it real ceviche it was tasty. The mussels were super yummy, but the seafood curry was incredibly lame. Honestly I would not go back to this place. I felt it was over priced for what you got when plenty of other restaurants are serving the same thing. I was so appalled at how that man treated us, I really never want to spend another dollar there and wouldn’t tell anyone to go. Very upsetting. Go to Del Giorno’s Cafe down the street, has super yummy mussels and tons of seafood for the same price or cheaper, with...
Read moreWe came up from Port Augusta. Fumo 28 was recommended to us.
We ordered 6 natural oysters and 2 fish and chips, King George Flathead, for takeaway.
Minus one star - The oysters were not fresh. Mediocre at best. Possibly from the day before. We had half dozen in Adelaide two days ago and they where absolutely devine. No excuse, living on the Oyster coast for Fumo to have such bad oysters.
Minus one star - fish was over cooked and really dry. They we thickly crumbed as well which detracted from the flavor. The fillets where about 2 fingers wide and about 15cm long. The actual fish in the crumbed batter was no more the 5 to 8mm thick. There where two fillets in each. Very dissappointing.
Minus one star - Serving size of the fish and chips was no bigger then an entre. I could have fit the whole meal in the palm of one hand. They where 17.90 each. The large container they where supplied in had one side with the fish and chips, one quarter with a slice of lemon and the other quarter with a dollop of tartare sauce. The chips where OK but no memorable...the chips at the Regal Chicken place around the corner where 100 times better.
All in all, not worth the price or the 20min wait it took to cook it. We where the only ones in the restaurant and should have taken that as a cue.
Plus one star - The restaurant ambience...it seemed quite nice inside, even though we did take away.
Plus one star - The waitress that took our order was helpful and kind.
In summery, go here for the environment and service....
