had lunch at the queenscliff inn on friday 15 june. we chose the lunch special $30 ea with free glass of wine. the waitress was very accommodating with a lovely personality.
we had the stuffed mussels for the entree and my husband had the chicken, brie and pumpkin pie for the main, while i had the spaghetti with a white wine cream sauce with bacon, tomatoes etc.
the stuffed mussels were just delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best stuffed mussels we have ever had.
my husband's pie was soooooo tasty. you could taste every single product in the pie.
my creamy spaghetti was also extremely tasty and was something a bit different from the usual fare on offer at other venues.
this restaurant was sooooooo wonderful we went back there for tea. ordered the mussels (yes, we do love mussels!) cooked in a white wine cream sauce. i can honestly say that they were the best mussels cooked that way we have ever had. the sauce wasn't too liquidy or too creamy. it was like goldilocks, just right.
for the main we both had their fillet of beef with bacon wrapped around it with a red wine jus, gratin potato, carrots etc. our meat was cooked to perfection!!!!!!!!!
my husband ordered his rare and i had medium rare. over the years at every other venue it is almost impossible to get your meat cooked the way you have asked for it, but the brilliant chef got it right!!!!!! brilliant.
the young girl who was head of house was one of the best we have seen, very friendly (but not in your face), very efficient and we could not fault her.
believe it or not we went back for dinner on the saturday night. yes, of course we had the mussels in white wine sauce again, still sublime and my husband had a chicken dish while i had the seafood risotto. once again everything was as we expected it to be. one of the best dinning experiences we have ever had. i even thought i was eating in france for a minute as the food was just sooooo delicious.
if you ever go to queenscliff you must eat in the delicious...
Read moreIt was lovely to meet Sally and Chris - we were thankful that they left the key with a note in an envelope at the front desk as we weren't sure what time we'd arrive. The convenience was nice and we later met Sally who is amasing. We also spoke to Chris and were pleased to meet the other half who gave us lots of tips for the area as we had never been to Queenscliff before. We loved the room as it was massive and had a fridge along with teas, coffee, water and a kettle. There was a fan and a lovely breeze through the window. A heater and t.v. if we needed it. The beds were clean and there was a lot of accents as the space is well loved. The bathroom is down the hall but we didn't mind - a few steps and we had access to the showers and toilets. ||The hotel/restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and we felt so lucky to be there. The sea ferry is 4 mts away as is the Bellarine train who does the Polar Express during December. The town is absolutely bustling with the cutest vintage vibes and shops from an era long passed. There are roof tops bars that allow you to see the whole of the area and you can't not see water so if you're a water lover this is place is for you. |||The hospitality was exactly what we needed - we had never been here before and never been to Queenscliff but pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and the welcoming energy. These two are clearly working so hard and i can't imagine the effort they put in. It's def. now one of our favourite spots - this is a business privately run and its easy to feel like part of the extended fam when you're here. It's just the vibe of this place and it was so wonderful to be a...
Read moreI drove 3 hours to get there. To my horror front door was locked. I texted them, got 2 page text back of elaborate entry instructions, with a SMART PHONE. As I don't have a smart phone, this was a problem. I drove around the block to find a rear entrance, but nothing. 50 minutes later, another customer tried to enter. 10 minutes and 6 tries later with smart phone, door eventually opened. I found & used the back door, but spent my holiday worried that I might return to find it locked. The room was nice, BUT one hanging light, of such low wattage I was unable to read (or anything) after dusk. I just went to bed at 8pm and stared at the ceiling, my shiny new book unopened! No milk in central kitchen area for a cup of tea, mirror was so high on the wall to use. As leaving, I pulled sheets back to help out, I found a very yellow stained mattress cover, uggh. Spoiled my trip, very apologetic to my accompanying mother, and quite frankly, pretty furious. The blurb on info sheet says "We pride ourselves on receiving you warmly & making your stay an enjoyable and memorable one." It was memorable for sure....
