On the recommendation of the Motel we went there after doing the evening Tower Hill Tour on Tuesday 4 July. We must be unlucky - this was digusting. As well as waiting too long, my crumbed steak had not been cooked completely through and was luke warm. My wife's meal was cold and nearly inedible. I think the bar staff were taking their time picking up from the kitchen and quality control in the kitchen must have been asleep. We would have sent it back and gone somewhere else except given the time of night it would have been unlikely we would have found somewhere. Would definitely not recommend
Edit after owner response
Luke has asked a question about table check and to be honest I am not absolutley certain but had someone asked they would have been told - we do not shy away from raising issues. It was close to 8.00pm by the time we were served and the chance of getting a sit down meal elsewhere in Charters Towers at that time would have been impossible so we would have just sufferred. However, these things should be right the first time and although table checks are useful, they should not prevent poor product from being reviewed.
We write these reviews as honestly as possible for the benefit of fellow travellers and not to demean businesses.
I am not sure if Luke is connected with all ALH pubs or just this one, but the Emerald Star Hotel will have also been reviewed by now and, sadly, after the 2 experiences we will not be dining at AHL venues in future if we...
Read moreThe price has risen a fair bit in a couple of months. A good location close to town so you have good choices for a feed and.or beer. The bed is comfortable and AC works well. There's plenty of hot water with very good pressure. However, you need to be a body builder to turn shower taps off as they leak. The roller holding the bathroom door was bent therefore you couldn't close the door and if you did manage it you would wake up the whole town with the noise. No maintenance at all has been done on these units. Ever the plant outside scratches down the side of your car. Ohhh use the spare blanket to shade the light coming from the parking through the coloured glass which doesn't have a curtain. I'm assuming when I come back in a couple of months from the money they are making the bathrooms will be marble with heated flooring and fitted with mood lighting and automatic dimmed...
Read moreWe needed some r&r in Charters Towers and thought this would fit the bill. But how disappointing. Firstly, the bed. The bed (a double, not a Queen) was on castors on a tiled floor so was constantly sliding away from the wall. Comfortable TV watching was a challenge. Bed linen was cheap and scratchy. The cold snap meant we needed more bedding but none was provided and the a/c only offered cooling. We had to cannibalise the single bed - luckily we weren't travelling with a child.|Now, the rest. The concrete block walls were painted a dreary shade of grey/khaki and the whole place could do with a decor upgrade. Numerous other problems: no shower curtain so bathroom floor constantly wet despite our best efforts, a very poorly draining sink, a broken switch for ceiling fans, no freezer compartment in fridge, ... Need I go on? Such a pity as comments indicate the food...
