It was my first time here, The architecture is absolutely beautiful, however our experience with this cafe did not match. We arrived just before lunch and the original table we chose had bird poo on the table cloth so we had to choose another table. We went to order 3 coffees and 3 meals, the girl who served us was new, which is okay and fine however the staff member training her did not remember the menu and prices and our order was mixed up a few times. We paid over $70 and we waited 45-50 minutes for our meals. Which is absolutely not good enough. When our drinks came out, for some odd reason one of our coffees was put on our table in a take away cup. We have no idea how this could get mixed up as we never mentioned coffee in a take away cup. the drinks took 10 minutes to come out so by the time we got our food, our drinks were cold or already finished. I had to go to the restroom and a staff member came racing out wanting to clear my cup which was clearly still more than half full. I asked her to not remove it as I was not finished. She told us she was looking for cups and to clear tables. We asked her the where about of our meals and she had told us they were short staffed?
After the 50 minute wait, our meals arrived. The fish and chips we ordered were quite good, big portion size and chips were cooked well, however the wait...
Read moreSituated in one of the many fabulous heritage listed buildings in this beautiful Historic city, The Stock Exchange Cafe has lost none of it's yesteryear charm. Black and white tiled floors, brick walls, tongue and groove ceilings and coloured glass windows throwing filtered colours into the cafe. Pioneer style tables and chairs furnish the interior with hand-painted, indigenous art adorning the the centre of the tables. In the glass domed arcade are more comfortable tables and chairs. There is a breakfast menu, a burger selection, plus sandwiches, wraps and rolls with you choice of fillings, also a counter display of tempting cakes, quiches, etc. Drinks include all your usual hot drinks, soft drinks and milkshakes, frappes and smoothies. Our lunch consisted of, roast beef, chutney and cheese on Turkish bread, perfect. Then quiche with a very colourful salad which included pineapple,(a very Queensland touch), most satisfying. The Venezia Primo Costa Ricon, Blend 4, was excellently prepared from the MegaCrem espresso machine. Their logo reads "Sensational coffee, wonderful food at a great location" we...
Read moreBeautiful building let down by this ridiculous excuse for a cafe. Coffee came out, lady put down a flat white, we asked if it was lactose free, she said yes (it wasn’t). Next coffee came out was the lactose free. Ordered a very basic bacon and eggs with our party 4. After 45 minutes checked on the order- “it will be 7-10 minutes”. Lady from the table behind came in to ask about her order, she had already waited over an hour and only received the kids meals which were all wrong. After an hour, asked for the food in a take away box, as I couldn’t hang around any longer. Finally got it after a total of about 70 minutes! The bacon was barely cooked, basic eggs, and ordinary toast. As a visitor, this place reflect poorly on Charters Towers and my experience there. Staff were very ordinary, not at all cheerful. Do not recommend. You will be...
