My partner and I went here in March 2023. My partner got chillie crab scrambled eggs and I had a steak sandwich, now although the staff were friendly and pleasant I honestly can't say the same for the food. It was not terrible, just very average. The crab scramble eggs were quite flavourless and you could not tell there was chilli present and as for the crab it also was barely present, of course you would not expect a lot of crab in the eggs but certainly more than there was. The steak sandwich was just a steak sandwich with the bare minimum lettuce, tomato, fried onion and chutney, nothing made it stand out or would make me go back for another one and to add I must express my disappointment in the drinks. The iced chocolate and sparkling iced tea, now the iced chocolate had no cream no nothing just chocolate syrup and cold milk, very basic. The sparkling iced tea was about 7$ and it came to the table with the iced tea concentrate in a small glass separate to the sparkling water that was in a small tumbler glass with ice this was very impractical, the concentrate passed straight through the sparkling water to the bottom, i was given nothing to mix it with and the glass was full so i had to take a sip and mix it the best I could with my straw, this was difficult because sparkling water tends to fizz up when being mixed. The ice had also made it impossible to mix it consistently resulting in the first mouthful or 2 being weak and tasting like soda water and the last 2 mouthfuls were like drinking straight concentrated cordial, I could not finish it 7$ for a small tumbler glass that was basically unmixed cordial, ice and sparkling water was very disappointing when all I wanted was a nice cold refreshing iced tea. I expect alot better for a 7$ drink and certainly didn't think id have to make it myself but all that aside it has a great environment, great view, lovely front of house staff, could really be something special if there was more passion and skill showing on the plate and also in the drinks. The food and drinks simply felt lazy...
Read moreI visited the Sunshine Coast for a little holiday to get away from work and looked up a nice place to take my family and i. We were recommend Depot cafe as it was close and had a great atmosphere. However we were quite disappointed. The staff were exceptional with their service and hospitality skills but the operation side of things need some improvement. We asked for a table for four and were seated inside as it was a bit overcast and cold. We were sat a 75cm x 75cm square table. We were waited by an elder women who said we can use the QR code to order or pop up to the counter. We then tried to use the QR code, however the reception was very poor and the website couldn’t be loaded. The cafe was very cramped and we couldn’t even fit all our meals and water at one time. The table included one pepper shaker and a little ceramic bowl for salt which seems to have fingerprints from the previous customers sitting at the table. We asked one of the wait staff if its new salt and she said they fill it up every morning and we just need to use a spoon disregarding the fact the previous guest used it with there fingers which is deemed to be very unhygienic during this Covid 19 pandemic especially in hospitality. For an expanding company that seems to be ever growing, the space is something that needs an improvement. The presentation of the food was amazing, and the wait time was fair. The prices seemed very high for what we were receiving but we were happy to pay. Overall the service and customer service was a delight but little tweaks in how the operation is run can...
Read moreFantastic service, and above average coffee. However, the manic and at times chaotic atmosphere of Depot at rush hour gives me flashbacks to lunchtime tuck shop at Robina State High.
It’s quite refreshing to know that if you put your name and number down somewhere, and they promise to keep you a table of 6, they will actually deliver. Spending a little time in the park and sun while we waited for a table was a nice touch.
The coffee here is also very special. I can’t say I’ve been anywhere in this 100km radius where the coffee comes with a tasting note card. What’s more, the tasting notes card did a reasonable job of describing the actual tasting notes of the coffee. Which is even more impressive due to how overwhelmingly busy the cafe was.
Speaking of which, it really was busy. So very busy. Props to the staff for keeping their cool. Usually, a busy cafe isn’t much of an issue, but Depot has a talent in making you feel like you are one of a hundred sardines in their little tin. Even as I speak, the servers are brushing up against my back in order to deliver orders to customers. And since it’s so busy, things inevitably slip through the cracks. Things such as general cleanliness and a unkempt vibe of Band-Aid solutions to fix immediate issues.
It’s a three star from me on this one, and but if the coffee and service weren’t as phenomenal as it was, it would...
