Usually the meals are very good however I've noticed that the lunch menu quality has been taking a dive. Fair enough the prices are cheaper and we use our members cards but why sacrifice the quality of the food just to make more profit at the evening menu.
I say this because I dined with my mother yesterday for lunch as we usually do only to discover that the tartare sauce was runny giving me the impression they were watering down the lunch menu sauces to prioritise the evening menu for better quality sauce that is less runny.
Also suddenly the chips were no longer battered as they once were, the chips were excellent then suddenly became average at best. Runny tartare sauce and average chips went with my peice of fish that actually had 2 bones in it.
I was shocked but didn't want to say anything, it's the first time I'd gotten bones in my fish, also the fish seemed to be a cheaper quality perhaps for the lunch menu people that get good discounts, profit comes first fair enough and the quality of the lunch menu fish had to be reduced for the evening menu dinas to enjoy the higher quality fish as they pay almost twice as much to eat in the evening at the yacht club.
For the high prices expected at this establishment I would expect the quality to remain the same whether it's for the lunch menu or evening menu. It was obvious that the people of the lunch menu were being taken down a notch and will no longer enjoy the quality of food you would expect when compared to the evening menu where the most money is made for the yacht club.
Too be fair I give a mixed review as it was only recently that the lunch menu has taken a tumble in quality. The rocksalt restaurant will be the next venue for myself and my mother.
The hogs breath is no good, they take forever to make a meal, if you went there for lunch during a work day you would be late for returning to work.
The yacht club would still have the best fish and chips but maybe only for the evening menu now which is fair enough since they employ 4 chefs and they aren't cheap to employ, quality had to take a tumble somewhere.
If you can afford the prices of the evening menu then plz continue enjoying the food but if you are planning on going to enjoy the same quality at the lunch menu, you may be left disappointed though at least discounted with your members...
Read moreHad many meals at the yacht club over several years but recent visits since change of hands the quality has declined which has ultimately led to this review. Ordered the garlic bread with cheese and bacon and 2 rib eye steaks (Med rare) with chips, Mediterranean salad and mushroom sauce with a bottle of red. The garlic bread was the standout highlight when compared to the main meal. Both steaks were thin, over cooked and both very oily which left not a pleasant after taste. One sauce was pepper sauce and not what was ordered. Most of the chips at best were luke warm and way too much oil in the salad. Guess the meals were left under the heat lamp for awhile too long. We ate there the previous night and had the same side salad which was spot on. When settling the bill pointed out our concerns to 2 bar staff young ladies when one of them just started laughing as though it was a joke - she was the one that took our order. The response was we will let the kitchen know - sure! Management will be able to work out who that person is and should have a chat about good customer service. We do frequent business in Gladstone and have always patronised the Yacht club but no more as we will take our custom elsewhere in the future. Very disappointed especially with the flippant attitude by one...
Read moreHad lunch here today. I have to give the staff 5 stars but the food was disgusting. I had the seafood bowl consisting of prawns, scallops, salt and pepper squid and a piece of fish with some very sad coleslaw which was tasteless and some mediocre chips. The squid was covered in so much pepper that it was unpleasant to eat. The scallops were crumbed and deep fried to a very dark brown but the inside was a mushy grey. The so called prawns were thin strips of prawn rolled in a heavy layer of bread crumbs and again deep fried until unrecognisable. The fish had a funny taste which I think came from something in the batter which turned a lovely piece of coral trout into something that I didn’t want to eat. All this came with a price tag of $32.00. So disappointing as I am from interstate and expected so much better from an establishment that could do it so well....
