My wife and I stopped at the Oak & Vine on our way from Brisbane to Port Douglas. We wanted to grab a simple dinner before going to sleep before our next leg of driving.

Our first interactions with our server, Teygan, were quite unprofessional:

When asked what the fish of the day is she responded with a fish name that we were unfamiliar with. When asked what type of fish it is, she responded with, "I don't know anything about the fish here. I think it's a white fish". That's not the answer we were looking for. All she needed to do was ask the kitchen about the fish type. She was also unapologetic about her lack of knowledge.

When asked about what types of gin is available for our gin and tonics, she said that they only serve Gordon's gin. This was not the case, as a blue bottle of Bombay was glowing behind the bar. When I pointed this out, she unpolitely smirked, rolled her eyes, and walked away. She then returned with two gin tonics that had zero garnish. Just gin, tonic, and ice. My wife believes that her G&T didn't even have gin in it.

The food finally arrived, and I must admit that it was quite average. My wife was OK with her "white fish", and my burger was as decent as anywhere else that prepares burgers from frozen meat patties. No complaints. Just average.

If you're looking for an average place to eat in Gladstone on a Saturday night, I suppose that the Oak & Vine will satisfy your hunger. If you want good service on top of that, please make sure that Teygan has a day off during your visit.

This would have been a 4-star rating had the service level...

Went for dinner with my colleague simply because we saw on the menu that they had lamb rack dinner special. We ordered some wine to start with that took 30 minutes to arrive and surprise we were presented with 2 piccolo bottles so not sure why it took so long. Then the food turned up, it was messy and cold. I took my food back and the lady at the counter I assumed was the duty manager was very apologetic and offered to get the issue sorted, she brought the dinner plate back to me again, I was surprised with the quality of the dish, I will be very confident to say this was the worst food I have ever eaten in my entire life, trust me I have eaten some weird stuff. I provided this feed back at the check out got not much response/acknowledgement from the lady behind the counter, however as we walked out the duty manager asked how our meals were, we provided her with our honest feedback and I have to acknowledge her professionalism in handling our disappointment. She was apologetic and for that I have to say was the highlight of...

Screaming mediocrity... $45 for a few pieces of overcooked Moreten Bay bug with some soggy boiled veg. Really not impressed considering the portion size of just about every other dish was immense. This was not compensated by the service or atmosphere.Trying way too hard to push the "fancy" vibes and falling beyond short; why put a giant TV playing sports in an upscale restaurant? And pokies? Just stick to one or the other or you end up compromising on both. Sort yourselves out, choose a theme and stick to it.

Friend ordered a Carbonara only to receive what was definitely bosciola (it had mushrooms, onions and cream) which isn't even on the menu. Chips are the packaged frozen kind and cheesecake for dessert looked and tasted store-bought, but was edible. Only saving grace was the lovely waitress who cleared our table at the end of our meal. Can't say the same for the rest of the staff who complained of being overworked despite there being barely any tables.

2 stars for value - don't order the bugs unless you like your...

My visit was at an hour where there were few people in the restaurant. Seeking somewhere for dinner I decided on the Oak and Vine for something familiar in food type. The staff were extremely good. A couple of young ladies who were pleasant and easy going made the visit worthwhile. I ordered tempura prawns for an entree and pork belly as the mains. The cooks made both items taste great. The pork belly came on a whipped potato with some broccoli that was left blanched and super crunchy and tasty. I loved it. Nice work team. The sauce was described as plum however it had a strong hoisin sauce flavour. If I was being too critical I'd say to consider rethinking the sauce to something slightly different. But that's more a personal thing to me I guess. Others will find the sauce to be fine. The visit was worthwhile for standard familiar style food.

We chose to stay at this hotel due to this restaurant recently adding a very impressive looking vegan menu. This was the $20 "vegetable stack". Which we were overcharged for. I'm an international flight attendant, I've never been more disappointed in room service in 10 years, and after a long day driving my partner was insulted and frustrated that this was the meal she'd looked forward to. We dumped it in the bin and ordered from Uber eats. Your kitchen should be utterly embarrassed and ashamed. I'd call your "chef" a cook but that would be an insult to cooks everywhere. Go back to flipping meat patties at hungry jacks. Update : we were told the general manager would contact us. Still waiting, 26-9-21 Update 29-11-2022 : they never got back to me. Customer recovery? Nada
