L&Bs Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Queensland

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY!! We went in for breakfast. The lady serving us had a very grumpy attitude. I mentioned that my daughter and I had allergies. She is gluten free and I am gluten, eggs and dairy free.

I asked if the gluten free bread was egg free. She said they get it from a local supermarket (I know that the majority of supermarket Gluten free bread in Australia has eggs). I asked her to check the packet. She came back and said there were no eggs. I said are you sure, because I will get very sick! She glared at me and said that she had looked and there were definitely no eggs.

The dish came out and immediately I knew it was a common gf brand that has eggs. The owner came into the restaurant and I asked if would be ok to see the bread packet. Guess what, it had eggs. I took the sandwich to the counter and explained that this was not acceptable and asked for a refund. She was not the original server. There is a little porthole to view the kitchen.

She went in, there was a bit of a discussion and she came back and offered me my money back. Everyone hid in the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, while everyone else ate their breakfast. The original server came out and offered me a bitchy apology. Without seeming overly bothered that she had made a mistake that could really hurt someone. The owner of L&B stayed out the back and did not bother to come back out.

Funnily enough they have a very prominent sign on the right hand side as you enter addressing their attention...

It’s so so good to just be able to get locally, a nice piece of fish that’s cooked well & simple crunchy chips with a wedge of lemon. Once again a great fish & chips. Felt like fish for lunch for something different. Ordered crumbed mackerel & small chips & both were excellent as always. Chips nice & crunchy and the fish was crispy on the outside & beautifully succulent inside. A generous size piece of fish & also generous with chip servings too…I usually get small & always have some leftovers (my doggo doesn’t mind this AT all) Always great friendly service with a smile too & even though I walked in & ordered in the middle of lunch rush, I only had to wait 10mins at most for my food. This has been my regular spot for f&c now for a good 6 months & I’d rather drive all the way into town to come here. Great place to get sworn at and threatened. 1 star too many. Ordered a coffee and and a slice of cake and took a seat outside. The young gentleman brought me my coffee and cake in take away containers and said "unfortunately we are now closing he will have to take the chairs and table away". I asked him if he couldn't have told me they were closing when I ordered as now I have to walk around with my coffee and cake and eat it somewhere on the steet. The young gentleman told me he was sorry but that's just too bad. After I told him this is really poor service he accused me of harassing him and he told me I better F___ OFF before he gets really angry. 35 minutes later I walked past the shop again, they were still open serving customers. This happened at 15:00, I see their official closing time for a Friday is 19:30. Worst service ever. Your time and money will be better spent...
