For the Love of FoodFor the Love of Food
Really popular place in Cairns City so thought it must be good if all the locals love it. Pretty easy to grab a table despite it being a full house, they just have so many tables you’re bound to get one. I didn’t really enjoy their ordering system - having to go to the counter to order rather than someone taking your order at the table. Menu was pretty good, lots of variety. Food came out in ample time besides my sister who was left waiting for much longer while the rest of us we’re well into our dishes. The portions are huge, dare I say too big. Food was pretty average, nothing to write home about. At least you’ll be full afterwards because of the amount of food. But nothing special.

I ordered the Paris-Style Eggs with a side of sautéed mushrooms, along with two lattes. The portion size was generous, and the hint of melted blue cheese in the sauce added a unique touch. However, the presentation of the dish left something to be desired. The ingredients—tomato, spinach, asparagus, and capsicum—were all mixed together, giving the plate a somewhat messy appearance. The baked potato was unfortunately soft and soggy, not to my taste. The lattes were just okay, nothing particularly special. Additionally, the interior of the café was a bit dark and could have been cleaner. Despite these points, I still enjoyed my breakfast overall.

I find the rating and praise of this place pretty confusing. As other reviews have mentioned the wait for food is very long. I’m not sure how it would take an hour for some pancakes and a “shakshuka”. The coffee and juice were great, probably the best we had in Cairns. The pancakes were fresh and tasty. I’m very confused about the shakshuka, it’s not like any shakshuka recipes I have seen or like any I have ordered. It was tasty but I would describe it more like a chickpea curry with a side of sunny side up eggs. Overall, I would order a coffee or juice from them, but I don’t have all day to wait for a meal from these guys.

Lillypad has always been well known as the go-to brekky spot, I am going to expose my once favourite cafe, to save others wasting their money like I did.

Went for breakfast this morning, for myself I ordered an eggs Benedict with bacon, my partner ordered the breakfast burrito..

To start, the eggs Benny consisted of a woolies frozen Turkish bread that was barely toasted, NO butter. The bacon was like a dried out peice of cardboard, to make it worse, it was short cut, with no fat. I specifically asked for crispy bacon, but got quite the opposite. Egg was passable. The key component, the hollandaise, was SPLIT... Which is honestly embarrassing as even your rookie home cook can make hollandaise.

The side sauteed potatoes were just as embarrassing as the rest of the meal.

To top it off, the Hash browns were frozen packet hash browns.

$32

Breakfast burrito was much to the same embarrassment and edibility for $24 The wet scrambled eggs had soaked through the unheated tortilla. bacon again like cardboard. It resembled a wet paper bag with melted cheese on top.

The banana smoothy was made with banana syrup and no fresh banana.

The only part that was satisfying was the $8 fresh juice which was all of about 4 sips worth.

Please save yourself the waste of money and support a business that actually puts some love into their food.

How sad that the famous lillypad has...

It’s okay, pretty standard for Cairns. Things went downhill when it took them 30 minutes to make some eggs when we went the first time even though we were the only ones there. Gave it a second try and the what I believe is the Shasuka dish was pretty nice, still an a long wait though. Although I went today, no one waited us to a table - the other times we had someone wait us but there was only one guy and no other staff so we can let that one go, but all went downhill when I ordered the Paris Eggs and man the were so bad I felt quite sick even looking at them made we feel very bad. It’s basically a bowel of vegetables with some cheap cheese and it had this thick orange looking water at the bottom. Unfortunately didn’t get a photo taken because it was just so nasty and it cost me $22 which is extremely overpriced for the unappealing stuff I received.

Approached staff to tell them that my food had some thick watery paste/ liquid at the bottom and the guy serving was actually really rude about it and said oh sorry that’s not our problem and walked away, not even asking me if I needed anything or if he should take it back to the kitchen. I’d already paid so I just left it there and left the establishment all together.

Better off to go to the market across the road or the pastry shop on the corner opposite the bank. Wouldn’t...

All I can say is wow! We were visiting Cairns from Goolwa SA to see Our Daughter off to Japan. My Daughter and Her friend are vegan so after looking up for Vegan cafes for Breakfast, We found the Lillipad Cafe. It’s a lovey little Cafe only very small but honestly the food and service was epic! Everton the menu they can change to Vegan, which was super impressive. I ordered the eggs Benny with bacon and was so suprised when it came out with this huge side of fried herbed potatoes. Img it was soooooo delicious and very filling. Hubby got the beautiful Crepes with strawberries, blueberries and cream, my Daughter had the pancake stack and a side of hasbtowns which She said were really “Yummy” and Our friend had an open omelet with two ginormous pieces of sourdough toast and a side of hash browns , which he couldn’t finish because the serve was so big. Our drinks were a chocolate thick shake , 2 almond milk lattes and a watermelon smoothie. Everything was absolutely amazing and We highly recommended this fabulous eatery in the heart of Cairns. It was greatly priced and We thoroughly had a brilliant experience. Definitely...
