My café of choice is @caffiend_cairns in terms of: ☕️ coffee quality @tattooedsailorcoffeeroasters and consistency (never a boiling coffee or a cold one, great presentation, not diluted, creamy irrespective of milk used), 🥓 food portions, quality, versatility and consistency. Great flavours and deeply satisfying, even the humble smashed avo on toast is one of the best; 🌾 gluten-free options with just about everything gluten-free, with exceptional quality. Their sourdough substitute was the best gf sourdough my wife has tasted and she's experienced many; 🥭 best juice we have enjoyed, almost anywhere tbh even across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane; 💰 reduced additional expenses, especially with the fact that many meals like the okonomiyaki are gf. With additions, when we first experienced it, we were shocked with the ridiculously high prices. But we have paid more for far less items and satisfaction levels, due to other local cafes overcharging of gf/dairy substitutes (even if their gf bread came from Woolworths) and extra shots of coffee- in the end the $ was justified enough to return daily and the menu stimulating enough to always try something new; ✋️ exceptional and consistent customer service, where you can see staff are happy and taken care of. The owner Ollie deserves kudos. 📝 A word of advice: the decor, signage and vibes are unpretentious and unique to Cairns. Caffiend breaks the mould of usual market profiles of cafes (not bouji, not hipster, not pretentious, not regional but not city) but is made for food and beverage experience seekers only. You will see more locals than tourists for this very reason, but I encourage all Cairns visitors to go as it will make their fb...
Read moreAs a Newtown/ marrickville hipster, this placed seemed right up my alley. Food looked amazing from the photos so my partner and I ventured to enjoy a great morning breakfast before heading to our cruise. Turns out this was the start to a nightmare breakfast. We were sat down by the waitress, no offers for coffees, teas or water. I watched one waitress walk directly past us as she spoke to the locals and served them first. 3 more groups of locals walked in and we still had not been served. We managed to order a coffee and some food, let’s just say the standard for an ice coffee would be the same if your 5yr old child made it. As we sat waiting patiently we watched another 2 groups of locals walk in, whom managed to get their coffees and meals before us. When we questioned the wait staff they told us our food was being plated. 10mins later, still no food.
This is when I got annoyed, after telling the staff of our issues, we were completely ignored and had eyes rolled at us, they also had the audacity to ask if we wanted takeaway. $70 lost by their bad customer service. For a town that’s based on tourism, maybe also look after the tourist and not just the locals.
I’m happily eating at candy’s 4 shops down, with great customer service, standardise pricing and decent food.
Sydneysider stay away if you’re looking for customer service this is...
Read moreAfter dining at Guyala Cafe and having a phenomenal experience, seeing that Caffeind had the same owner I went in with high expectations.
These were met.
I ordered the Okonomiyaki (a japanese savoury pancake) as I have enjoyed these in Japan previously which was rather delicious. My wife ordered the big brekky which was “yummy” and it's name was no lie as she was unable to finish it.
But before even getting to the food I was thrilled to see a pourover option. Immediately asked for their gold label and got to choose from Kenya or Colombia beans. I have had better experiences with Kenya so I went with that single origin. There was a short wait for it, as expected when ordering a pourover, but in the meantime I was offered a sample of their batch brew and I enjoyed this a lot - very smooth and soft compare to the common batchy. The pourover came on a nice serving tray where I was able to have the full experience of a pourover. This too was delicious and I enjoyed the fruity flavours and smooth beverage.
Definitely a must try for people that like coffee but also great food...
