The worst dining experience of my life. Sent a dish back soon as it was served(red curry). Rice was also very dry and old. Shame never got a photo. I told the lady why. It was completely miss cooked I’ve had woolies/coles curries better than this. Yet she tried to bill us for it instead of trying to fixing it or offer a replacement. Which is why the review is one star. Places like this need to understand it’s not their god given right to be paid by serving rubbish. Dish had so much chilli powder no fresh chilli instantly gave my mum and me heartburn. My mum was up half the night because of it. This place was so disappointing that they don’t use fresh ingredients no fresh herbs or chilli in the dish lady said they use a PASTE to make the curry. Which was probably tomato paste and chilli powder with some coconut cream. Complete joke. Had the staff just apologised for a bad dish maybe tried or offered to fix it ? instead of trying to defend it and bill me for something sent back in the first 3 minutes of serving the experience would have not been so horrendous. Completely ruined our evening, mood and I wish places like this never existed they are a complete waste of time.
Fresh chillies cost $40-50 a kilo. Why they don’t buy them.
Pack of ground chilli powder costs $5 a kilo and lasts forever.
Hence why they use powders. Don’t be fooled by the menu photos this is not what they serve.
I can take this moment to explain to Mai Sai Chee chilli powder is not to be used as a chilli replacement. It’s to add a Smokey hint to a dish and should be used in very small amounts and should be fried off and not thrown raw in to a boiling broth. So to the person replacing one for the other please stop. You have no idea the damage you’re causing to the people eating this or your business.
Wish people were more trained to serve food but heyho this is what makes a good meal great after being served something so below average that it’s not even funny.
Would never go back if the food was free. Terrible.
Lady wanted me to explain why it was so bad which I did last night but my words were going in one ear and out the other. so I have taken this opportunity to write to you so you can read this over with your kitchen and understand what you are doing is completely bizarre. Places like this serving food in Thailand for 50 baht at a time don’t exist. They even know the difference between fresh and powders. Hands down my worst Thai food experience and if it was my first Thai I’d never try Thai again but luckily I know how food should be served.
Wish you had just tried to fix the problem or help. The money really wasn’t a big deal until they tried to argue and charge me for it claiming I don’t know what I’m on about. Well unfortunately for you I do and I won’t accept to held hostage to people serving absolute rubbish and demanding money once it’s sent back. You should have just offered a replacement or not argued when you know we didn’t eat it and sent it back immediately. Complete amateur...
Read more"Mai Sai Pak Chee" offers a blend of Thai and Asian cuisine, providing students in Cairns with a great option for value for money, taste, and ambiance. =)
As a student like me, I’m seeking a place to study or unwind, Mai Sai Pak Chee seemed to meet my expectations with its diverse menu(vegetarian options) and inviting atmosphere.
Today, I tried Vegetable dumpling as a starter, Laksa tofu with noodle as my main course and a refreshing drink and also popular drink in Thailand, which is the Thai milk Tea (iced tea).
Vegetable Dumplings is steamed dumplings with vinegar sauce on the side that brings a delightful fusion of taste and textures in your mouth.its so satisfying!
Laksa Tofu is a warming for the soul with the comforting bowl of laksa tofu; served hot, infused with aromatic spices and coconut milk.
Thai Milk Tea (Iced Tea) really complemented my meal, I opted for a refreshing glass of Thai milk tea, served over ice for a cool and real Thai beverage experience. yeah!

Read moreThis little Thai place on Lake Street, is near the corner of Spence Street. We dined on a quiet Sunday night, and sat outdoors, which was quite relaxed and laid back.
The food was tasty and fresh, and served in generous portions.
Our waitress, cum manager and maitre d was friendly, polite and helpful, and service was fairly fast.
There are no toilets in the restaurant per se, you need to ask the waitress for a key and then go around the corner to the next door building and use the staff toilets on the ground floor. I found that a bit creepy as the building was quite deserted.
We used our Entertainment Book discount (25% up to a generous max of $40) so we paid only $76 for four of us, including a shared starter and two beers. Decent value for money and, apart from the lousy toilets, a fairly satisfactory overall dining experience, and we’ll probably go back when we’re next in Cairns.
The name is a bit of a mouthful though. Hard to pronounce and even harder to remember. Why don’t they just choose something simple and easy like “Lake...
