We dined at Piato last Friday (26/04/2024) to celebrate our anniversary. We welcomed by a lovely gentleman who served us throughout the night. He didn't mention his name and we simply forgot to ask but he deserves special mention as he made our night memorable. He doesn't only knows the menu inside out, what it is also how they are made but most important to us he provided us with recommendations. We simply said what we liked for wine and he went through the wine list and made recommendations to us. And no surprise our wine was perfect and it wasn't the most expensive wine on the list. They have a very good menu to select from, we were undecisive but had couple of options in our minds. We planed to have Chef's selection but he recommended us seafood platter (photo attached) and another main to share which cheaper than what we had in our minds. We asked our main to be served after our entree and he kept an eye on our table without interfering our conversation and as soon as we finished our entree, table was cleared and main dishes served. This was the best seafood platter ever, nothing came cold, just freshly cooked for us. Only calamari and battered fish was fried the rest was grilled to perfection and mussels were die for within generous sauce. It was the best ever beer battered fish ever, light and full of flavour. We indulge ourselves with deserts. After the bill settled and we are getting ready to leave, he surprised us with 2 glasses of limoncello to celebrate our anniversary. If you are looking for special occasion, great food and excellent service this is the place to go when you are in Cairns. Thank you lovely gentleman and chef. You made our anniversary celebration perfect. I highly...
Read moreHad high hopes for this restaurant. Food and service were excellent. The let down came when we tried to pay a portion of the bill with our Restaurant Choice vouchers. Prior to ordering we confirmed with the waitress that the restaurant accepted the vouchers. The restaurant is listed as one of four restaurants in Cairns that accept these vouchers. Hence this is why we chose to eat at Piato. The brand new vouchers were taken by the waitress who scratched the panel to reveal the pin code to use as a savings eftpos transaction. Mysteriously the eftpos machine would not process the vouchers. The waitress consulted with the manager who also tried but concluded that their new system with the bank, NAB, was the reason for the payment fail. The waitress, not the manager, was the one to return with the bad news and we were told that we had to pay the bill in full and that we were welcome to return on another day to use our vouchers, once the system was fixed to accept the voucher payment. I accept this type of mishap happens from time to time but the handling could have been better. The manager could have been the one to apologize for the dilemma and offer to compensate in some way. Particularly as we chose this restaurant specifically to use the vouchers and confirmed we could use them prior to ordering. Unfortunately this has left a...
Read moreExtremely disappointed, approached this restaurant for 3 of us for dessert. Was told by an older gentleman that whilst they do serve dessert they were far too busy to be seating us or serving dessert to us. Simple as that. You won’t continue to be busy turning away locals especially when you have empty tables. Gentleman was also rude to the family of 4 in front of us who also turned and left, I’m hoping they weren’t tourists, you know, the people our town needs to survive.
Reply to your response : That is precisely what happened, we were not told there were no tables, we were told that “Yes we do serve dessert but at the moment we are far too busy to be doing dessert”, nothing about tables, it was 8.00 at night and hardly at a peak and as I approached you after the family in front walked away shaking their head you were grumbling quite loudly about said family that “you were here 15 minutes ago looking”. I have never left a review previously about a restaurant but felt compelled to after our experience, I hardly have the time to be making things up. Instead of being unprofessional and rude yet again in your response, take the criticism on board and learn from the experience. You have lost approximately $100 between 3 desserts and...
