You should just book this now. You're going to have a great time and a lot to talk about.
We did the full day tour, which was two canyons. I'm glad we did, but a half day would be enough for almost anyone. Each canyon had a personality and wildly different environments, but both were great and neither was "better" than the other. You can't go wrong. More rappelling (abseiling) in Crystal Canyon and more "jumps and slides" in Behana Canyon. The air temperature was low 70sF (22C). I'm usually always cold, and was most nervous about being cold all day. With the wetsuits they provided, I was never cold.
We had three guides: Dom, the locally-born and canyon-raised ebullient lead who kept up his energy (and ours) for 10 hours, "Wolf," an encouraging young woman full of smiles and photography skills, and Tom, a fish mistakenly born into a human body. Dom was full of information, history, and jokes and you never felt like you didn't know what you were supposed to be doing (but also never felt like you were being ordered around). Fun leaders and you also felt like they had good camaraderie with each other.
One of the women on our trip didn't really know how to swim, but they managed to keep her happy, safe, and still on schedule with the rest of us. So, be upfront with the guides about your skill level but don't let fear of water...
Read moreMy partner and I went on the Behana Gorge Canyoning in late January. We booked directly at the very last minute and the guys at Cairns Canyoning still ran the tour even though we were the only two people booked on the tour. Additionally, due to the river being quite high due to rainy season, they sent two amazing guides with us to ensure our safety and that we had an awesome experience at no extra cost. Without a doubt, our canyoning adventure was the highlight of our entire 25 day holiday. We were challenged, but never forced to complete any activity we weren’t comfortable with. We both have a moderate level of fitness, which I would recommend, but not as much as I would recommend having an open mind and adventurous spirit. Our adventure was made even more amazing by our guides, Dom and Marcio, who had such an infectious positive energy that it was impossible not to banter with them, and have a lot of laughs. They kept us safe, were encouraging and had such a true love for their job that I simply cannot wait to join them on another canyoning adventure. If I could give them a 10 star rating I would! We will definitely be returning guests, as the enthusiasm and professionalism of the company were highly impressive. We hope we get to see the pineapple tip next time as well! Highly recommend, if you do nothing else in...
Read moreAmazing experience, absolutely loved it! Highly recommend to visitors to Cairns as well as locals. We did Behana Gorge tour and we got to explore the gorge and get to places I never been to before even though I previously visited the place and the Clamshell Falls many times. You need to be reasonably fit for the tour, but the guides work with you and give you easier or more challenging options depending on your fitness level and ability. It will not be the most graceful experience of your life as you will slip and slide all over the place, but it will be heaps of fun to be sure :D If you enjoy jumping, abseiling, swimming/floating through crystal clear water, then there is no better way to spend your afternoon. The gorge itself is very picturesque and rock formations are amazing. Guides were very knowledgeable and kept us all safe and entertained with their jokes and stories. All the gear for the experience is provided - see the pic for the outfit you'll be wearing on the day including a wet suit, helmet, harness, life jacket and a plastic bottom cover for improved sliding ability :))) Remember to bring closed-in shoes (sports shoes with non-slippery soles will be the best) and a waterproof hands-free camera if you have one (the crew also takes photos on the day that you can purchase for an additional...
