Where do I begin with NQ watersports? They are rude, dishonest, greedy and unprofessional.
We had booked a jetski tour two weeks earlier for the Saturday morning with Steve, the owner, for my 30th birthday. We were told to arrive at 8:50am sharp. When we arrived the employee working in the office (Scott) was surprised to see us and told us there was no record of our booking. He said Steve (who runs the tours) was “sick” but would be okay by tomorrow. We were a little taken back but we agreed to come back the next day at the same time. Scott confirmed Sunday was going ahead.
We arrived at 8:40am the next day only to find NQ Watersports closed. My partner noticed a missed call and voice mail from 10 minutes earlier - Scott called to tell us that Sunday was cancelled because Steve had “hurt his back”.
It was clear that NQ watersports didn’t have the numbers to make a profit from running the tour that day, I would have been fine if they had told us this instead of being intentionally deceptive and giving us next to no warning for our tour cancellation. We were only in Cairns for 5 days and NQ Watersports wasted two consecutive half days of our trip. All this and not even an apology, let alone a call, from Steve the owner.
It seems NQ watersports are happy to take JobKeeper payments to remain open, but are much less eager to offer services when it isn’t convenient for them. I thought this was the entire point of JobKeeper? Apparently NQ Watersports are much happier taking payments for doing literally nothing.
We decided to holiday in Cairns as it was heavily impacted by COVID, but it’s clear some operators are happy getting payouts from the government for doing, quite literally, nothing.
I have looked at many reviews for NQ Watersports and my experience is not an outlier. Steve is aggressive, dishonest and down right lazy. I feel sorry for Scott who is stuck working in a business that is nothing but a drain on the economy. Avoid NQ Watersports like the plague and take your money, and more importantly time, elsewhere.
While I don’t wish any ill on NQ Watersports, this review will probably be obsolete in a matter of months as they won’t remain open once JobKeeper payments are cut later this month...
All the best Steve, clearly tourism...
Read moreI did the Jetski Crocodile spotting tour and I was really disappointed. We haven’t seen any crocodiles, which is of course not the fault of our guide. But driving in one line for the whole 60min with nearly full speed all the time is not really fun. The guide was pretty unfriendly if you make one mistake (passing him on the wrong side, do not get back on the dock on the first run). There was another guy at the office who was very friendly, that’s why I give the second star. (A Little bit older)
The Jetskis were damaged, one mirror was missing, bumper was nearly falling off, some plastic things were taped together. The worst thing was this „GPS-SIGNAL-THING“ , which makes you loose all your power when you are too close to an other jetski. In general a good thing, haven’t seen it anywhere else though. This thing didn’t worked very well and stopped me a few times for no reason, the guy behind me had the same problem. Photos costs $30 with an „old“ camera.
I bet it is much better with the other tour guide, but wouldn’t do it again. $190 is too expensive for this experience...

I called the number from NQ Watersports website and got onto Steve. It was approx 5pm when I called so fairly late! Steve asked if he could call me back since he was about to take a group out.
Without fail when he returned from his tour he called me back and I was able to book for the next day! So I was slotted in short notice!!
The next day Steve called me again to confirm I was all good to go! That was really nice, told me what to bring and what time to meet.
I get there and I met Kye. What a legend he is. We ran through the safety brief, filled out the forms and off we went! First time on a jetski and it was awesome. Not only was it real fun but Kye was just an all round legend.
I highly recommend this jetski tour for anyone that comes to...
