We eat out regularly and have no issue with following COVID rules, they are designed to keep us safe. We always sign in and use sanitiser afterwards. Our experience with this tavern felt very excessive to the point we felt harassed. When we entered I went to sign us both in while my husband went to order our drinks. Before I had a chance to get my phone out of my purse for the QR reader we were told to sign in, I said yes I’m going to. A second person then told us to sign in while I had my phone in my hand. Again we agreed, and said yes we are signing in. My husband was a meter away from me at the bar, tried to order our drinks, the first girl said she was not able to serve us until we had finished signing in. A 3rd girl then came over, stood beside me and was looking at my phone as I was in the process of scanning. I asked her if she was going to stand there and watch me, she pleasantly said people were having trouble signing in, but continued to watch my phone as I signed in. As i went to order our meals the manager asked to look at my phone as proof of signing in. I told him the girl had watched me do it. He said they needed proof and were following guidelines. He followed me back to our table and insisted on looking at my phone for proof. I was looking forward to a relaxing and pleasant lunch, instead I left feeling harassed and uncomfortable. I’ll be eating out at one of the other venues in town...
Read moreI highly recommend this place The Sovereign Tavern for your lunch and dinner. The cost of the three meals came to $75.00. I went there with my Dad and his friend for dinner on a Friday night and we got the last table, so I recommend that you phone up to reserve a table as at 6pm it was booked out we were just lucky to get a table that night. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the beers were nice and cold as well. Dad and I went again on the Saturday night but this time we did book a table and I'm glad we did as again it was totally booked out this time Dad got a chicken salad and I got a 400gm steak and again it was cooked perfectly. The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere at the pub was great. The cost for the two meals on the Saturday night was $60.00 as I order the bigger steak from the night before. When I come back to Charter Towers again I will be going back there for a dinner or two. The Sovereign Tavern I highly recommend to just to have a drink there or to have your lunch or...
Read moreThe menu here was one of the best looking I've ever seen, when we walked in at about 1:40 we asked the staff for menus, they gave them to us, we then ordered drinks and looked over the menu to see what we wanted to order, at 2pm we went up to order and were advised the kitchen closed at 2. Had the staff at the bar told us the kitchen was closing we would have ordered quickly and been fine, however due to them not telling us we had no lunch and the pub missed out on a $200 order. When we told the staff we would have ordered sooner if we'd known their response was "we didn't realise the time"
Woeful and no care, we travel monthly to charters for business and was going to make this our spot but after the lack of care from the bar staff I shudder to think about the care in the kitchen, we...
