The food here is very very bland. The entire place is like a massive McDonald's with alcohol except that it has a dress code and you have to sign your life away to get in (and this is even outside of Covid). I have eaten here often, due to family obligations, and the food has never ever been good. Passable? Yes. Edible? Yes. But never good. Tonight, we get a burger that is so spongy you can tell it is more flour than beef and nachos that are so bland the "taco seasoning" is clearly just paprika and salt. Granted, the chips were good and the cheese was okay. But the beef was spongy and flavourless and the $2 sour cream was not needed because the beef was so bland and the $2 guacamole was a pastel mint green and tasted like mayonnaise with a dash of sour cream, a spritz of lime, and drop of green food coloring. Where is the Avo?
The pizzas have soggy doughs, the fried scallops have an odd taste (maybe excess oil), the calamari is like a rubber band encased in a solid fry pocket, the steak is not cooked to preference, and the cakes are dense but okay because there is sugar?
As I said, I eat here often by force. There are some redeeming qualities: the chips aren't bad. They open the alcohol just fine, although not one bar tender was still standing there when I tried to thank them (sorry, back to positive), anytime they bread and fry chicken it has had decent results. The cob loaf is decent, if not breaking any boundaries of flavour.
Look, the food is not bad if you want to overpay for worse food than you can cook yourself. If your home has no electricity and you were desperate to get out and find some air con, this is not a terrible option.
Don't expect to be impressed, but...
Read moreIf I could give a minus star I would we had our mothers wake here. Our poor dad was kept out at the door because he didn’t have his vaccination certificate on him but he is 91 and lives at Norman rd nursing home I called the home to get it sent through and assured them he had three jabs but still instead of letting him through in his wheelchair we had to wait another 10 minutes while it was organised most distressing for an old man who had lost his wife of 70 years I still cannot believe people can be so cruel. Sons and daughter were so angry not the emotions you want to feel at your mother’s funeral, I understand rules but everyone knows nursing home residents are vaccinated and as I said proof was on its way. This behaviour is totally unacceptable and your club needs to be SHAMED. Also the fact you charge for a space that’s not even a room don’t supply enough food for the price and even after all the stress and confusion you have the nerve to charge a dollar for a takeaway container so a non-vaccinated family member who was made to sit in the car could have a bit to eat.
When this venue was booked people were coming and going not even being asked for proof of vaccinations so don’t know why an old man in a wheelchair was treated in this disgusting way just wanted to attend his beloved wife’s wake. Nothing you can say now will be enough to make right this wrong. All I can say is teach your staff to have manners and above all kindness and compassion especially when dealing with elderly people. I recommend a course or two in people skills...
Read moreMy mother passed away Saturday 30 April. I went into the club to arrange for the wake on Sunday afternoon 1 May and booked Friday 6 May. I was told that the events organiser would contact me. I went into the club on Tuesday 3 May to see them, as no one had contacted me. When the events organiser came to speak to me, I was abruptly told that I had no booking and that she was the only one who does the booking and had spoken to the other staff member concerned. When I asked why no one had contacted me, was told: Don't you check your phone. Yes, I do check my phone as the contact number given was my mobile and there were no missed calls or left messages. Was told there were already 3 events being held there, so would have to go elsewhere. No respect , no apologies for the mix up or sorry for the loss of my mother, she was very rude. Only went there, as my mother was a member of their club, indoor bowling group and treasurer for it the year 2015 and previous years, and attended their sporting dinners. I will never step foot in this club again. Recommend everyone to go to the Rockhampton Leagues Club where they are more accommodating and friendly. Last thing I needed at the time...
