A Truly Memorable Experience at The Southern Hotel, Toowoomba

I don’t often write reviews, but after our recent visit to The Southern Hotel in Toowoomba, I felt genuinely compelled to share our experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and attentive service that made us feel right at home.

The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between modern comfort and that inviting country charm Toowoomba is known for. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy a great meal, and not feel rushed.

Speaking of the food – absolutely outstanding. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether you're after a perfectly cooked steak, something from their seasonal specials, or just classic pub fare done right, The Southern Hotel delivers in every way. The portion sizes were generous, and the attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed.

A big thank you to the staff – from the kitchen to the front of house – for going above and beyond. It’s rare to find such consistently excellent service paired with high-quality food. We left feeling full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

We eat at the 'Southern' regularly...roughly twice a month. $20 special meals are always reliable - as are all their meals...yummy, fresh, & well presented. But the service tonight was atrocious...we had finished our meals for ages... & the waitress cleared a large table behind us, & i had to put our dirty plates on that same table, for them to be cleared, at least 30mins after we finished our meal! Plus, i hate it when you're ordering your meal, & the bar server has a convo with her fellow work-mate behind the bar, & has to ask you to repeat your order because she's not listening to you. (I remember when 'fire 🔥 & ice 🧊' was originally set up, with table cloths & white gloves on the service staff...) Mr Rowley would roll... Also, we often order quite late, (as it's handy that the kitchen cooks until 9pm - thank you from toowoomba!) but then we have to listen to the kitchen staff bashing & crashing, washing up & cleaning & shouting & singing, while we eat our food! (Yes...we CAN hear you over the servery people). It won't stop me from eating there...but I would love for the finer details to...

FOOD POISONING DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

My family and I ate here for a late lunch on a Sunday. I am not from towoomba and was recommended by family to eat here. I ordered the chicken filo and my brother had a chicken snitzel and we both had very bad food poisoning from these meals!!! Both of our partners didn't get food poisoning however they felt sick after their meals. I am very lucky my one year old daughter was asleep otherwise she would have been eating off my plate! I rang to ask for our money back considering we essentially payed for food poisoning and was basically told that there is no way this could have happened and it must have been because we hadn't had much else to eat that day. I was basically made out to be lying and told that food poisoning can take 3 days to have an affect on you which is not correct. I was offered vouchers to come back however we will not be eating here again.

Not only that but the service was undesirable and not all of our mains were brought out at the same time. I highly recommend not...
