After several years of having Two Ducks Cafe on the to-do list, we finally booked a table for the entire family and headed in.
Located in a small, quiet complex, Two Ducks has ample seating, both indoors and out. Ambience is good and the service was great, especially from Aggie who has a quirky sense of humour and also offers clear advice on the food options. FYI that this restaurant is BYO only for those keen to have a drink.
After sharing some dim sims and spring rolls as starters (both fresh and tasty), we ordered from a decent selection of mains, which were available on both the standard menu and specials board (delivered to your table for easier reading).
Our mains included Kung Pao Chicken, several different pork belly options, Chicken Laksa and Malay Chicken & Potato Curry. Additional rice bowls were also ordered to share among the group.
Every meal was fantastic. We all enjoyed our choices very much and the food was both flavoursome and fresh. Aggie was very honest beforehand about spice and heat levels and, as promised, this is what we were served. The bowls themselves were amazingly deceptive: we originally saw them and thought they were rather small. Once you start eating, however, they're like the Tardis and just never end! I would estimate a good 12-15 decent pieces of pork belly in my meal alone. Throw in some rice and you're well-and-truly satisfied.
Best of all, the prices are very reasonable and this was our cheapest dining experience all week, even when compared to merely going for breakfast at other venues. I would definitely recommend Two Ducks to anyone seeking a quality dining experience at an...
Read moreNot for Asian palletes!!! Rude.. We visited this cafe after seeing its 4.5-star rating from over 200 customers, but I was incredibly disappointed. Firstly while ordering, a mid aged Asian lady came to take the order when i started ordering i also said can we also have date pudding, she abruptly took the menu from us and said “later” and walked off, that’s it. She was nicer to other customers obviously who were non-Asian probably locals there. Yes we are Asians and unfortunately that lady was Asian too so i am a bit surprised on her conduct.
The meal orders we made was Megoreng and Pork wontons. The Megoreng was drenched in an overly sweet, caramelized sauce, making it almost completely black from the excessive soy sauce. It didn’t even resemble the Megoreng I’ve had before. The wontons were served with plain boiled noodles and a a few pieces of meat—no soup, no flavor, just bland. We could barely eat the Megoreng and only nibbled on the dumplings and some of the meat to satisfy our hunger. It was so bad that we couldn’t finish it, even though we were starving. Honestly, the food seems more suited for non-Asian tastes who are not familiar with the actual flavour and ingredients. When we shared our feedback with the same lady at the counter, she responded by saying, “I wouldn’t have charged you if we’d ever received a complaint, but we never have.” She didn’t apologize and dismissed our concerns entirely. We ended up paying for a meal we barely touched. Never going back again. Wish i had taken photos but we just...
Read moreWe came for dinner on a Friday night at around 7pm .. Only 1 other group of 4 diners.. Later on another couple came... Lots of empty tables Not a good sign for a Friday night 😢 .... Malaysian is one of my favourite foods and they had some interesting dishes... We tried 4 entrees and for mains, we had the beef Rendang and Singapore noodles and rice... Entrees...The deep fried crispy whitebait with mild chilli sauce was yummy but a small serve, the deep fried cassava crackers with TamarInd sauce were OK.. like a robust prawn cracker, the green papaya salad with Char Siua and peanuts was very tasty and the fish balls in a curry sauce were not bad but need some rice to soak up the sauce. The Beef Rendang was tender and with a dark rich sauce, more like an Indonesian version than Malaysian. However the Singapore noodles were a big disappointment, all I could really taste was the curry powder and the amount of prawns was ridiculous about 15, which is probably why it cost $30😰... I'm sure with further visits we would find some hidden gems but it was a mixed bag and not great quality...
