Eye Scream Café — Restaurant in Rockingham

Be careful when using cash at this café. I’m so disappointed. It’s not about the small amount of money, it’s about the experience, and I hope this review helps the café improve.

I’m a local and have visited many times, often with my baby and a pram, sitting outside. There’s a middle-aged staff lady who’s always been lovely, even giving seeds so the birds don’t bother my meal. I always return my plates to the counter to make things easier for the staff.

But today was a shock. I brought my nephews visiting from the city and gave them $50 to buy four single-scoop ice creams ($26 total). The young girl at the counter gave them $22 in change and walked away—but it should have been $24. It’s only $2, I know, but it’s the principle. People who know me know I often donate to those doing it tough in this city, so it’s not about the money. I’d much rather give $2 to someone in need than feel like it’s being taken from me.

When I politely asked the older male staff member for the correct change, he argued, saying the ice creams “looked like double scoops.” Whether they looked bigger or not doesn’t matter I paid for single scoops which I ordered. He kept insisting until the young girl came back and confirmed the price. Only then did I finally get my $2 back.

First time I’ve had to watch the whole table finish their meals and drinks before my own food was ready.

Eventually I asked for a refund as everyone was ready to leave. I was refused a refund as my meal was “almost ready”, at this point I just wanted a refund so I could leave.

I reasoned with the staff and decided to get it placed into a take away container. Was told it would be taken out to my table in a minute.

5 minutes later the owner sent a young staff member out to let me know they had missed my order & the one they were supposedly making was for another table. Was then passed a handful of change and given an apology after originally being told I couldn’t get a refund 5 minutes earlier.

Worst service I’ve experienced in awhile, kitchen obviously not coordinated adequately. Inexperienced staff (majority of the coffees came out spilt all over the saucers).

I hate to leave negative reviews, although this one had crossed the line for me. Ruined my Sunday morning breakfast...

Really bad experiences there, We have waited 20 minutes for a table and then we got the table by ourselves, I don't know why their staff gave the table to the others, who came later than us, they just told me they ordered before us! I can not accept it! I came to the store first and looking for the table, and we want to order after got a table, and I had asked them before I order, can I have those tables and they said to me ok! And then we went to order they gave my table away! That's fine because we were still waiting for the tables, I saw a lot of tables available and I asked staff where can we sit the other guys told me they don't set up the table for customers, we need to find a table by ourselves, so what should I do! I found the table they gave to the other and we wait for them to set up a table, and they said we need to find it by ourselves. Because are we Asian? so you don't wanna do...
