Ordered from Uber Eats. The meals arrived to our house less than 20 minutes later, which is weird because we live more than 12 minutes away and you'd think it would take more than five minutes to cook and be picked up. This was the first red flag.
We ordered spring rolls to share, I ordered the "Veggie Mie Goreng" and my partner ordered the "Katsu Ramen Noodle Soup". They didn't look too appealing but we didn't take notice because food often looks bad and then tastes great. Unfortunately, we both started eating and immediately said to each other that this was the worst food we'd eaten in an extremely long time.
My meal consisted of egg noodles that were so soggy and falling apart and absolutely swimming in sauce. The taste of the food was so bad (overpowered by a sauce that I can't even begin to describe) that I couldn't have more than a few bites. I offered it to my partner to try as he had also stopped eating his but he refused as his was also bad. I did not try his either but he said it tasted "funky in a disgusting way".
We ended up throwing out all of the food except for the spring rolls (which really were not good either but they were edible). I made packet Mi Goreng instead which was a thousand times better.
What an absolute waste of $40. We will...
Read moreI've rediscovered this place in this past year or so. I used to get lunch from Sasuke (as it was known many years ago) when I worked in Doubleview. I always had their Teriyaki Chicken rice, with extra sauce and sometimes extra chicken too.
After going back regularly again, I can definitely say their Chicken Thigh Teriyaki is just as good as it was before. My go to order is always the teriyaki chicken rice, although to be honest I haven't tried many of their other dishes on the menu, so they may be good too. Love their pan friend Chicken Gyoza too. This is always a standard order for me together with the Teriyaki chicken thigh rice, extra sauce. Love the sauce. So flavourful and goes so well with the rice, the salad and Japanese mayo.
However, my experience with the sushi rolls were average. Vegetarian Gyoza weren't really my thing either.
For the last few orders I've been getting a little slip in my takeaway saying that Izakaya Sasuke will be relocating. They are moving to 1/166 Brighton Rd in Scarborough which thankfully isn't too far away from it's...
Read moreLook guys - I don't know how this place has so many 5 star ratings - currently it has a rating of 4.2 - which is frankly, inaccurate - it's like... a 3.5 kind of place.
I mean, the agedashi tofu was not particularly fresh, the seating is a tad uncomfortable, the service is middling (though you get to order food with ipads, which is very seamless!), the sashimi is passable (about the same quality as what you might get at Seafresh across the road), the lotus chips were pretty good, the teriyaki was kind of bland tasting...
I was trying to defend this place, because honestly I enjoyed some of katsu dishes, but generally they were a bit too expensive and not really high tier - kudos to the kitchen for trying to do authentic Japanese cuisine but I wouldn't eat here by choice unless I was desperate for Japanese food.
I mean, I would go to this place over the Tao a few doors down in a heartbeat, so that's...
