South Freo Continental — Restaurant in South Fremantle

We nabbed a decent table on the roadside verandah at The South Freo Continental late on what was clearly a busy Saturday morning for the team.

The drinks and food were served quickly and efficiently, our party opting for a chicken satay burger “very nice 👍🏽” the Angry Birds (fried chicken) waffle “tasty but stingy on the chilli and coriander 🫣” and the egg Caesar salad with added crispy bacon “needs flaked not finely grated Parmesan and some black olives - oh, and maybe an option to add anchovies too 😂”

Portion sizes were good and the food was served fresh and hot and our accompanying juices were refreshing albeit a bit pricey.

One small observation, on a very hot and sunny day it would have been an idea to have had the wall mounted fans on to circulate the air as it was all a bit still and therefore somewhat uncomfortable under the canopy, but all told we had an enjoyable meal and our overall experience was a...

Great waitstaff, overgrown toddler owner.

Made the mistake of popping by for a steak sandwich and the rosti with eggs. Despite being under 50% capacity, we waited 25+ mins. for the sandwich and 30+ for the rosti. Unfortunately, I realised the sandwich was mostly charcoal and very burnt… After asking about my dad’s rosti that still hadn’t arrived, his was much of the same… To top it off, we were treated to the owner/chef laughing at us after politely bringing up the issue with the very patient waitstaff, before devolving into a 3/4-life-crisis sized temper tantrum after we requested a refund for the untouched food. Worked in the service industry for over a decade now, never seen someone burn food that badly and still serve it..

Tried this place for the first time for my birthday thinking we must go to new places rather that regular what ‘we know’ places. Lovely location and good vibe. However - First they got the order wrong so one breakfast had to go back. Eggs Benny - my eggs were over overcooked and far from runny. Very small amount of smoked salmon too. Overall a mediocre breakfast experience which is a shame. Need to do better. Off to fine somewhere else for...
