There is the coastal ocean waters to cleanse your soul and there are two great beachside cafés to choose from. As far as beaches go that is a significant amount of amenities to enjoy right there, but wait, there's more....Sth Freo Dog Beach has lots of white sand and not so choppy waves like other beaches nearby. The topography is such that it rarely gets rough. I go to Port Beach and Swanbourne and see people getting dumped by crashing waves (I shouldn't laugh, I know). I have never seen a dumping wave at Sth Freo Dog Beach. This Beach also has a large grassed area with tall Norfolk Pine Trees giving shade to picnickers. Get there early because even though there is plenty of parking it can be difficult to get a spot during peak times. Peak times are when you want to go so I recommend breakfast, not lunch, if you're going to partake in the culinary delights on offer at either of the two excellent cafés. If I had any complaints it would be that parking is a problem on weekends in fine weather. The predominance of motor vehicles in Perth is an endemic problem. There are far too many cars on the road and this is unlikely to change anytime soon. People have become lazy and Perth is very spread out in an urban sprawl so this is the sad fact of getting to the beach in Summer weather. Bicycle, scooter or walking are the best alternatives available. South Terrace, the street leading to the beach, is actually a great touristic area full of bars, restaurants and cafés. All of this combined makes the South Beach area one of the most popular areas to chill and soak in the laid back beauty of...
Read moreAmazing beach filled with friendly dogs and people . However beware as unfortunately there are some dog haters there too . We witnessed a disgraceful display of aggression by a middle aged woman swimming towards a dog also swimming. We saw her punch the dog in the head as it swam towards the beach to get out . The owner of the dog was very close also in the water and we heard her tell the lady not to do that . The aggressive lady then proceeded to launch a foul mouthed tirade towards the dog owner and began approaching her in an angry manner . The dog owner told her to back off and then she was spat on !!! We were sitting on the beach less than 10 metres from this incident and saw and heard everything. We heard the angry lady say terrible things about what she thought about all dogs and what she would like to do to them . A man then suggested that she walk to the other beach and she then began to verbally abuse him too . Simply awful . I hope this is just an isolated incident because we love this beach it’s such a happy place to be where families can come and bring their dog and...
Read moreWe LOVED this beach. We visited on a Friday evening. It was quite busy but we managed to find parking up close as someone was leaving. There is a large grassed area where dogs can play off lead. Showers for the dogs and humans. Water bowls for the dogs to have a drink. The beach itself was lovely. Wind shelters available but not needed. The water was calm. The other dog owners were friendly. The place was clean and had a great atmosphere. It was a great place to visit with our family (ages
