Chef Kim Oriental Restaurant — Restaurant in Sunshine Coast Regional

Chef Kim is a good suburban restaurant, nothing fancy or pretentious, just good food at very reasonable prices, pleasant decor with friendly service. We shared 1 entree, 3 main dishes and a fried rice between four people and that was plenty for us as the serves were generous. We started with Lobak, pork mince wrapped in bean curd sheets that were crispy and very tasty. One serve was enough for us all. Then the mains were: seafood combination - a generous mix of scallops, squid, prawns and fish, not overcooked, with vegetables in a light sauce - very good! Then two traditional favourites, chicken chow mein - large pieces of tender breast meat and vegetables also in a light sauce - and beef chop suey - tender beef with vegetables and crispy noodles. All were very flavourful and none were over-sauced, nor too spicy. The taste was clean and fresh and easy on the stomach! The restaurant was very clean with a very pleasant decor and it was quiet, no loud music, just the sound of happy customers. The young waitress was attentive and friendly. At $87.50 the meal was very reasonable. We have ordered takeaway from here several times, but this was the first time we ate in. We will do it again. We visited Chef Kim Restaurant last week, hoping for a delightful oriental food but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas. The service was quite disappointing. From the moment we entered, the staff seemed inattentive and indifferent. The food was the biggest letdown. We ordered couple of entrees and both were below expectations. The Seafood rolls were overly salty and lacked the authentic flavors we were anticipating. The garlic king prawns was cold and seemed like it had been sitting out for a while. Additionally, the portion sizes were quite small for the price charged.

Cleanliness was clearly not a priority. The table we were seated at had not been properly cleaned, with leftover crumbs and sticky spots. Very unkept place. Dirty & filthy.

Inedible. Ordered for the first time from Chef Kim's this evening. The corn and egg soup had gelatinous globs all through it. No idea what these were but they rendered the soup inedible. The stir fried vegetables with tofu was hands down one of the worst Chinese meals I have ever eaten. I could barely stomach it. Garlic sauce was actually pieces of Ginger with some strange liquidy sauce that tasted like old socks. Tofu was still partially frozen and vegetables not cooked. All of this for $36...really disappointed. Actually quite angry. How can places as poor as this even...
