Disappointing Experience – Not Authentic Japanese
Michi Sushi in Maroochydore is nothing special and fails to deliver a genuinely Japanese dining experience. For a restaurant that markets itself as “Japanese,” it’s frankly ridiculous that they don’t heat their sake – a basic expectation in any authentic Japanese establishment.
The food also leaves a lot to be desired. The Michi Roll and the Salmon Volcano are essentially the exact same dish presented under different names, making it pointless to order both. To make matters worse, they don’t use authentic wasabi, which strips away even more authenticity from the menu.
There are also some questionable practices. The glowing reviews on Google feel suspiciously inflated, almost as if they’ve been paid for or generated by bots, because they certainly don’t reflect the underwhelming reality of the food and service here.
The overall dining experience is uncomfortable and poorly thought out. The booth seating is rock-hard with no cushions, making it unpleasant to sit for long. They use wooden cutlery, which feels cheap and out of place for the price point. The staff show little initiative, failing to offer even basic things like side plates. To top it off, despite the disappointing experience, nothing was offered to soften the blow – not even a complimentary drink or a gesture like taking something off the bill. This lack of care leaves a very poor impression.
Overall, Michi Sushi misses the mark badly. With unauthentic touches, inattentive service, and no effort made to redeem the experience, there are far better Japanese restaurants on the Sunshine Coast where your money will be much...
Read moreWe were expecting great things with all of the reviews on here. Sadly, we left feeling disappointed. The food was very tasty, but the service was absolutely awful. When seated they told us they would take our order at the table. After deciding what to eat we waited more than 20 minutes (in a half empty restaurant) we thought perhaps we had misheard so my partner went inside to order. He was told he couldn’t order inside and they would come to our table. When they did, the waiter had some language challenges so we had to point to what we wanted on the menu. Even after pointing, everything that came out to the table was not what we had ordered. While the food was tasty, the service would probably turn us off...

But what really shines is the food - specifically, their signature crunchy salmon rolls, which combine fresh salmon, creamy avocado, and a delightful crunch from crispy onions, all wrapped in delicious sushi rice. And don't even get me started on the curry udon - the noodles are cooked to perfection, swimming in a rich curry broth filled with tender chicken and tasty vegetables. My only suggestion: please offer table water service to match the high-quality food and ambiance. Otherwise, this spot is a must-visit for Japanese food...
