Solbar recently hosted the inimitable and always massively entertaining Amigo The Devil, performing the first of his Aussie shows. Needless to say, bye-bye work and hello Sunny Coast!
I was blessed to stay in Alex Headlands so was a mere 7kms from the venue. Solbar was easy to find, but parking was trickier. Plenty of roadside spaces but not a single one free. I found one around the corner, leaving me with a short walk back.
The venue itself was cool; a nice ambience, tables filled with eager punters awaiting the show, beer flowing freely, and what may or may not have been an open-mic session providing entertainment up front.
From there, when the time arrived, we headed through a door and into the rear stage area. A nice open space, with merch stand to the left and bar to the right. A selection of tables and chairs allowed seating as well. (A big shout-out to the hubby and wife I met there, eager for the show but even more excited about the pending birth of their child, due the previous day! I hope you're enjoying every special moment).
The stage is low and accessible, and I actually finished the evening up on it, filming from above and chatting to Dave Talley, the support artist. This added a level of intimacy and community not found in bigger venues. Sound was good too, not too loud or muffled.
Overall, I really enjoyed both Solbar and the concert. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly, and there wasn't an ounce of negativity or trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to...
Read moreI’ve talked to the police about it but I just wanted to say so people know that and older tan man a SECURITY guard there knuckled me in the jaw tonight as he snatched my drink out of my hand as I was drinking it cause I was standing at the stairs instead of the bar finishing of my drink not walking away just standing there texting my partner to get picked up he came over and told me I wasn’t allowed to drink it there and instead of telling me to go back inside (whitch I would of done happily) he grabbed my drink and through it at the wall and told me to shut up and with a few other bad words I won’t put on here he would not tell me his name as he knew he was in the wrong and would not let me in to talk to another staff member I told another bouncer at the other entrance and he did absolutely NOTHING just beware of the “security” guards here they offer no security and will lay hands on you and will not care if you are aggressive as I was not I was literally just standing there texting and taking a break from the music and bass this was so upsetting just beware and don’t assume you are safe. Forgot to add photos this is the man that laid hands on me for no reason but getting some fresh air and drinking the last of my drink before going home his identification...
Read moreWent back to Solbar today after a couple years and had some AMAZING FOOD. We shared the buttermilk fried chicken, buttermilk fried Cauliflower and a sweet potato fries. I think I preferred the Cauliflower to the chicken, the chicken was a little underseasoned but tender and delicious. The fries were mega crispy and came with a life changing sauce of sweet miso and Wasabi mayo. I'm definitely going to try and recreate that for myself because it was rediculously good. Went super well with the fried stuff too. They do a lot of pizzas too, will have to try one soon, they all sound delicious. Today's coffees weren't as strong as I'd prefer, but some people might like a weaker coffee. Have been back since for the sweet potato fries 😅 Heres my review from 2 years ago: Cool vintage style with a diner vibe. We had the popcorn chicken and fries, both delicious but the chicken especially had a slight Indian flavour that was unexpected and delicious. There was a young dude playing excellent covers (better than the original)...
