My husband and I don't eat out much, only on social occassions like birthdays and anniversaries. Since we have moved to the Sunshine Coast 19 years ago we have tried a few restaurants around the coast, 5 star ones, little family owned ones, pubs etc. as a "home cook" that cooks all sorts of wonderful foods, we are and have been disappointed more often than not every single time, even at The Spirit House! We went here last night for my husbands birthday. It was reasonably busy, with the staff taking care of seated customers as well as a long stream of take away customers. There were only 3 staff working. We sat outside and got water immediatley. WIthin 7 minutes the waitress was out asking if we were ready to order. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, tumeric chicken and lemon grass chicken. The spring rolls came out and OMG they were DIVINE. first bite we both knew immediatley they were made in house. The pastry was crisp and fresh and the flavour was very unique. the mains followed, about 30mins later, but thats fine it was being made FRESH! It was obvious from the stream of local and regular takeaway customers that this was the place to eat! When the mains came out, the aromatic smell was incredible. Both dishes looked identical, but tasted completely different! The rice was soft and fluffly, the chicken melted in your mouth and the subtle flavours of ginger and chilli and corriander rolled around in our mouths the whole way home. the staff were so lovely, very professional, attentive. the restaurant was clean, lovely decor and ambience. We will most definately be back, i do beleive we have our new place. Looking forward to working our way through the menu! We have not been so impressed for a very long time. Thank you for the wonderful...
Read moreMe and my friends went to this restaurant to have dinner on Friday night. We arrived at the restaurant around 5:30pm. There was no customers in the restaurant at this time but we stood at the door for a while before the staff came and greeted us.
Food was ok, we wanted to order satay chicken skewer, rice paper rolls and bao buns. But all of these are not available even though we were the first set of customer in the restaurant.
I ordered a chicken pho. They use chicken breast to make chicken pho. The chicken meat was very dry and hard to chew. My friend ordered spicy beef soup. She couldn’t finish the beef in the soup either. The beef was very tough. Unlike the beef you would have in a good Vietnamese restaurant, which is tender and soft. The presentation of the meal is good. But normally with pho , you will get dipping sauce, but no dipping sauce was served with dishes . The amount of noodles is very little in the bowl ( little then usual portion ). Me and my friends are only little and don’t eat much normally. But the serving was not enough to make us feel full. I think this restaurant is good enough for people who haven’t had much exposure to Asian food /Vietnamese food. As they wouldn’t know the what authentic Vietnamese food is like. But for those who had good Vietnamese food before. Some dishes in this restaurant can be a disappointment. However, the staff is...
Read moreI'm a local and have eaten take away from this restaurant many times since it opened. Tonight when we received horrible food, I was surprised and really disappointed. It's like this restaurant has changed hands with the quality decline. We ordered the Crispy pork Belly, Lemongrass beef vermicelli, rice paper rolls and satay chicken skewers. The pork was not crispy in the slightest. The pork portion was good sized but not crispy, it was never crispy. It was rubbery and greasy. There was so much grease we had to pour it in the bin (was not sauce). The bin did end up eating 80% is this meal because it was disgusting. Beef was not lemongrass beef. I love lemongrass beef and had nice beef from this store before but what I got tonight was not it. It was more a soy/hoisin beef. It was very salty and over powered all other flavours in this dish. This didn't get finished either. Rice paper rolls were well put together but very basic and not much flavour. Satay sauce on the chicken. was very nice but the chicken we super over cooked and really dry. Really disappointing with the food but the staff...
