As regulars of Frolic and Brown and prior to that Murray’s, we decided to pay our first visit to Sip with our friends as it had just recently opened. We were greeted with a friendly face on arrival and water brought immediately to the table. Atmosphere was great with choice of ordering at the counter or QR code. Menus had been refreshed and looked very professional with a nice back story on the values of the owners and what was expected from them. The coffees came out promptly and even though latte art was lacking the taste and consistency was really good. Then came out the food which was 3 corn fritters, 1 bacon and eggs, 1 eggs on toast. Everything on the plate was excellent except one thing, the poached eggs. Every one of the 8 poached eggs were completely over cooked and the yokes looked like dried hard boiled eggs. I am putting this down to new ownership teething problems and if it had been one egg then it would not have been as much of an issue. However as it was every egg on the plate, this was not just a simple mistake. We will definitely be back again and hopefully the these issues...
Read moreAfter my last appalling experience here, I spoke to the owner, who assured me it was just a bad week for them, so I excused the poor service, and bad food, and decided to give the cafe another go, as it had always been 5 star for both food & service on previous occassions. So this morning I decided to pop in & grab a take away coffee & some brekky. There were a few tables in, but nobody was waiting to order, so I thought great, I'll be served promptly, as there was a staff member standing at the til doing nothing. Didn't even get to order. The staff member felt it more appropriate to start chatting with a colleague & turn her back to me, rather than serve me. It's very unfortunate that this has happened a 2nd time, because I won't be going back again, and i certainly will NOT be recommending this place to anyone. A tip for the owners, please ensure your staff are aware that they are in Customer service roles & they are paid to serve paying customers. God knows your prices are high enough, that a person should be able to expect...
Read moreSip is easy to get to, good parking available and it's very pretty and open inside. There's a great selection of both traditional and more unique drinks. I ordered a matcha and it tasted a bit odd, as though there was ginger powder in it so not sure if that's standard or maybe they almost put in the wrong drink?
The menu has a few unique dishes too like the sweet potato with chilli jam and many traditional meals like eggs/bacon/sourdough toast. I found it a bit difficult to find something gluten free for lunch though. I have lots of allergies including garlic which made it difficult as well. I ordered a toasty but unfortunately it had garlic (as did all the flavour options). My fault for not asking though, so I went to buy another meal and the frittata looked good but again had the garlic aioli.
The chef came out to help and all the staff were super helpful and went above and beyond to find something I could eat, and offered me a freshly made frittata slice without the aioli, free of charge.
Really...
