Shady and unfair business practices. Soso food. The fish was very expensive and did not taste very good. They go out back and grab a whole fish slicing it slightly but leaving it in one piece. I could have done that. It even tastes exactly like what you can make at home. We asked them to pick a small one but they came back and said all the fish they have are big. One barramundi today cost 80 dollars (measured by weight including the parts that you wont eat. ie head, tail and bones.). And the fish fell apart in the hot pot soup (tasteless btw) quickly so we lost a lot of it. Disappointed.
It says outside on the ads it is 20% off but when you pay, they ask you to pay cash or direct pay ID to get the discount. I think it's too dodgy to do business this way. The workers did not mention this before eating or on the sign outside.
You need to give a 5 star review on google to get a free drink. This must be resulting in the inflated reviews here. No way do these people deserve a 4.6 rating.
The self service sauce dishes are left open in a corner and they do not look that clean. The atmosphere is not good either. The shop is really small.
I think they are good at asking people to post positive reviews on social media. However, after you try there once, you won't want to come back. The quality vs price is really low. No need to try if you are attracted by the online reviews. Really, you buy a fish from the shop cross the street and put it in the soup, you get exactly the same thing for one third of the price.

One of many Chinese restaurants on this side of Eastwood, but, with its own niche of fish hotpot hailing from Wuhan. Restaurant is pretty clean and service is just as expected. Not very busy even on a Saturday night perhaps because of location and/or too much competition.
Fish hotpot is the specialty here and the stone bowls with high powered steaming and boiling functions are quite innovative and novel. Whilst the fish is fresh from the tank and the soup is quite nice, nothing exceptional and the price point leaves a fair bit to be desired. I do appreciate "free" rice and watermelon but sauce is not and charged at $3pp. All the usual sides you'd expect at hotpot also come at somewhat of a premium.
Steamed fish hotpot Barramundi: S, 8/10. Very fresh, tender and sweet Soup: SS, 9/10. Nothing too complex but still delicious especially after steaming the fish Sides: B, 6/10. Very ordinary things you could supply yourself but charged at high prices Value: B-, 5.5/10. $60/kg for barramundi, $23 for soup base and around $10 per plate of sides
Wuhan dry noodles Flavour: A, 7/10. A bit spiced and savoury but not exceptional Texture: S, 8/10 Value: B, 6/10. $13 for just sauce...
Read moreI took my family here for lunch to celebrate Father's Day. It turns out to be quite a nice place to experience steamed stone pot fish.
We order the classic original base, snakehead fish slices for our steamed stone pot with some vegetable and tofu skin on the side. The fish is very firm and taste fresh, the portion is reasonable. The soup have good flavour with a lot of ingredients added in like fish cake, corn and etc. Also for $3/person you can have all you can eat rice, fruit and sauces to go along with the steamed stone pot.
Although note the main offering in the restaurant is the steamed stone pot so other dishes are a bit limited.
The staff are helpful in showing us how to cook the right way with the straw lid over the stone pot and service is fast. The downside is the bench seating we found a little tight for leg room because of the size of the cooking unit under the bench.
But would come again for steamed stone pot...
