Good dumplings, high prices.
When a restaurant is fairly pricey but the food makes you forget about what you are paying for it, I'm usually quite forgiving. This is not one of those places. The dumplings here are tasty and well cooked, as are is the entire range of their food. Everything that is supposed to be juicy is juicy, and everything crispy is crispy; it is exactly how you want your Shanghainese food, without offering anything different. Serving sizes are proportionate to what you'd expect, maybe a little larger than what might be typical. Service is so-so, cooking times can be very long, particularly when ordering take away. Decor is standard, everything seems comfortable enough but not particularly inviting (or uninviting). It can get very busy on weekends and there are times where I've had to wait for a table.
None of this can excuse the prices. I can only assume that this place has become so popular and increased their prices ever slightly so that people would not notice, but for the options in Sydney (let alone Eastwood), you can do much better.
A warning for English-only speakers - you may have difficulty ordering from here. I have tried to order over the phone multiple times and always come up short to the point where I have to go into the store and order there.
Good for every now and then with some friends, but not regular visits unless you absolutely love dumplings and don't...
Read moreFirst time here for dinner last night 7.10.20 & was really impressed by the fast friendly service (after reading a few negative reviews) We ordered the following: Prawns w/salted duck egg - well cooked & battered with salted duck egg yolk compared to other places, & also came with salted duck egg yolk battered zucchini which was also yum Wok fried beef - this was surprisingly served on a sizzling plate 😊 we couldn't figure out the flavor but it was nice & tender - my partner thinks it was black bean but I think it was brown bean with a hint of sichuan peppers + fried chili w/soy Steamed prawn + chives dumplings - nicer than any I've eaten at Yum Cha. You can taste the freshness of each ingredients. Fav dish out of everything we ordered tonight & it was ordered by mistake - I thought I marked the dish below on the order sheet for their pork veg dumplings in soup. Just means I have to come back for it Spicy special fried rice - not spicy to me & main flavor was the dried chili + chili oil, which wasn't great, just average. Would say this is what brought my review to 4 stars but others might love this dish. Will try their other fried rice Members get 10% off - I signed up on the spot by scanning the QR code at their counter. Would recommend this place to anyone. Going to try their Burwood & Macquarie...
Read moreWe have given the restaurant five stars rating about a year ago, but now we have to change it to one star, we just ordered take away, food quality is quite unacceptable. and no chopsticks inside the delivery bag (maybe it is their policy). We didn't finish the food, actually had very small portion of it, because the taste was not good at all.
Comments from one year ago: We already stopped going there before the pandemic due to the poor customer service, there were few girls three were very rude and shouldn’t work as a waitress at all.Especially a quite tall girl there , she was the rudest one there and just didn’t do anything. Last week we went there again and found that those girls gone (don’t know is it for that night only) , the young guy who served us he was very friendly, he was running all the times as it’s so busy. We ordered 3 dishes and two tasted so good, one seafood not really our taste but it’s not the food it’s more our own preference . I hope the owner will keep paying attention to their customer service and the...
