BSC is a gem. Excellent coffee, outstanding pastries, and hearty, quality pies. Today I returned to try out the food after a little exploration visit yesterday to try the coffee. I enjoyed a beef & cheese pie and shared the strawberry shortcake. The pie was noteworthy for its blend of quality ingredients and flaky crust craftsmanship. The shortcake was light and flavorful. We also got a cherry cheese croissant to split and it took the cake (sorry for the pun). The genius who figured out how to execute this croissant deserves a badge from the French. Well done on everything, BSC.
Staff is incredibly attentive and hospitable. It was a busy morning in the shop as locals, students, and others made their way in to pick up takeaways orders or to enjoy their goodies in the few seats available inside or out. It made for a lovely buzz without any sense of overcrowding.
We'll be back. So much more to try (and...
Read morethe service here is poor if yr not in the correct l gang. I spent $35 on a birthday cake and the attendant couldn't even be bothered helping me tie up the box with a string. First: she claimed the shop didn't have any string. When I asked someone else, low and behold they had string! So the attendant comes out and just plonks the string and a pair of scissors on the table, turns on her heel and walks away...without a word. there were no customers in the shop at this point and 3 people behind the counter - so why was I made to feel like it was such an inconvenience? When I complained, the barista said unhelpfully that no one in the shop KNEW HOW TO TIE UP A CAKEBOX WITH STRING and that I didn't have to take the cake if I didn't want to! Seeing it was a birthday cake for that very day, I didn't take up the option. Obviously avoiding the place...
Read moreNormally absolutely great - been coming here for years, even when it was run by the current owner’s father!! Always excellent service and great coffee. Today, though, left a sour taste in my mouth. Such a shame on the last day of the year. Picking up my pre-ordered, pre-paid $45 NYE cake (among other bakery items I picked up yesterday), and ordered a coffee. I was told by a dutiful staff member that the minimum card spend was $5. Understandably, I questioned the ‘extra’, seeing I had already outlaid in excess of $60 yesterday. I was told that they were the rules?! ADVICE from someone who’s been involved in the hospitality industry for many years: Please allow your staff the discretion to make the rules fit the situation....
